Anyone looking at a Deere who bought knowing their policy about the actual ownership remaining with the company is an idiot. Honestly- you can use it but that's all?

We need low cost repair insurance. I spend between 30,000-40,000 per year on repairs. It is nuts!

Yup. Its a scam when a useless sensor goes bad and it cost you 2 grand to get your tractor to start again.

Yeah, I've been going through that with my Case loader tractor. In 2 years, It has cost me over 8 grand to fix the nox sensor, and the DEF pump just cost $1600 for the new pump. Haven't got the labor bill yet, but they made 3 trips, so it will probably be 2000. Crap!

Same thing with cars. My knock sensor 2 on my car had high voltage. Couldn't just replace it. It required a software update which is $495. Same thing with my fuel pump. Replaced that myself and the problem didn't go away with it not reading the tank correctly. $495 for the software update.

Car companies should be required to provide updates free of charge. Just like a cell phone.

Only the authorized dealers so you will never own the code inside the machine which you have possession of. You can't use it for anything like profit but like a DVD that copy is YOURS backed up with Supreme Court Rulings (assuming we had a real SCOTUS);

I have a ‘85 JD 4450 MFWD that I recently did a complete engine & hyd pump overhaul on, new cab interior, new rubber. All totaled I put about $25k into it. Machinery Pete says it’s worth 50K.

Old John Deeres hold up extremely well after a few repairs needed due to normal wear and tear.

I know of a '78 2030 diesel that runs like a clock. A little rusty and needs some hydraulic seals replaced, but gets the job done every time. Cheap parts and easy to fix.

Growing up a farmer in Illinois I will tell you that you HAVE to know how to repair every piece of equipment you own or otherwise you will not survive a single season-period.

Used tractor market is thriving, because people don't want the new crap they can't work on.

Time to open source that shit.

Love or hate Robert David Steele, he was right about open source equipment and promoted the idea a lot.

Equipment too sophisticated. Hell...give me an easy to work on car without all those bells and whistles that cost a fortune to fix. Same with pickup trucks...basic truck that is affordable. Yeah right...a $60,000 truck to haul manure or concrete blocks. Use a utility trailer!

I have a 1968 Ford 8000 it has 105 HP. I could hook it up today and plow till the cows come home. Great machine.

My little tractor is a 64 Massey 65 also rock solid dependable.

In the restaurant business Hobart is the same. No repair company will touch a Hobart machine except specific Hobart techs. I think Hobart threatens them with lawsuits. And they charge a shit ton to just show up.
