Deere has been copying the auto industry’s biz model. GM(AC) became a finance company that also built cars.

The thing that saved Deere’s bacon when they were upside down in the late 80’s was the inception of John Deere Credit. They became a finance company that also built tractors.

I have a first cousin who is the GM of a JD dealership here in TX. Corporate flat out tells these dealerships - don’t worry about making money off of a sale in fact sell at cost if necessary because where the money’s made is in the repair shop.

Again, it’s a business model. Fuckers.

A neighbor tossed out a good looking riding lawn mower after a fire. they got a bunch of money from the insurance claim and bought a new one rather than repair their old one. So I took it to repair it. at this point, Ive given up trying to repair it to its original state and am now going to simply bypass all the nonsense and just make it run. Its crazy how many switches and relays and just altogether nonsense there is when it comes to repairing a simple john deere riding lawn mower. I cant imagine how hard they mustve made it to work on their big stuff. it does seem that the tide is turning in our favor in regards to the right to repair issues. slowly but surely

Learn to repair and keep running what you have. If you don't, you get what you got comin'.

Here's an idea: Let's go back to mechanical. Corporate farmers can keep their electronics, but let the little guys have simple machines that get the job done.

ETA - maybe we poor folks could have actual mechanical cars, too. I seem to remember getting from place to place pretty well in them.

They will NEVER stop screwing us. Its only a matter of time before people reach their breaking point and go absolutely crazy. There wont be enough fire trucks in existence to put that blaze out.

One thing everyone here has missed is the control they have over farmers production now. Its damned right dangerous. They can pull what the Bowl she vicks did in Ukraine with a "software update" that bricks the equipment

In the near future, Tractors, Cars, and Trucks, will be too expensive to own, due to $10.00+/gal fuel, and high maintenance cost, you'll be happy to not own them.

I get where you're going but it makes me think of Cuba with all of its 1955 Chevys and such.

Much of what we are seeing in cars, trucks and machinery are mandated environmental regulations and the expensive components necessary attempting to maintain production.

There must be some middle ground somewhere!

And you can repair that as much as you like. Way better quality than a John Deere, these things can run for a century or more with good upkeep and the factory also made T34 tanks, so you know it will never break.

Kinda surprised this has not yet gone to court.

Depends on where you are. I am in TN and had a bumper crop last year and was trying to sell out west where they are suffering from drought. I was trying to help and was willing to sell for $35 for a 5’x4’ round bale (going rate for around here) but it turns out it was too expensive to truck out west to make it worth anybody’s while.

I haven't followed the case. Was it about proprietary diagnostic software? We (the company I worked for) had a case Dozer and only the dealer had the diagnostic software. Unfortunately, even with that, the tech made a very expensive error. The final drive was shot.

Deere has been successfully sued in federal court on this issue but still are not cooperating.

Someone should import Russian tractors, they are virtually indestructable. I am sure that if you made a deal, they would probably throw in a couple cases of Russian vodka.

Used to be a strong fan of Deere, but now, they are all the same, just want your money. Screw the computerizied shit. Give me a diesel with a pull switch on the fuel and I'm good, or a gas tractor with a carb and points.

no innovative startup will be able to answer the market call for right to repair products because regulatory agencies are making requirements so strict that only those with enormous capital to meet those requirements will be players going forward.

Insurance doesnt make thing get cheaper. It just makes it more stable.
