My late husbands family were traced to Belarus . There had been no contact since his father went to war at 15 yr old . The area they had lived in was annexed by Russia after the war
Anyway to cut a long story short 2 of the family were brought over for a holiday . To say they had been living in poverty was a vast understatement . They had nothing !!! The old lady ( my father in laws sister ) was wearing woollen socks she had knitted herself and shoes that were far too big for her . Her home was a wooden shack in the forest .
My brother in law set up a donation centre where folk donated clothes, toiletries , basic medical supplies etc and went over with them every 6 months until he became too ill.
None of the family or anyone in the village had functioning toilets . The toilet was a wooden structure at the bottom of the garden where a bucket was supplied to get rid of the waste .
Yes , there may be really nice areas but there are also very bad areas ( basically like anywhere else in the world )

The Russian people get paid little money..like 250 or 500 a month..but it is all relative. Like monthly rent is only 25 dollars..etc.. they can afford food and rent and utilities on that
With the West always attacking their currency..they would not be able to travel internationally very easy..because their money wouldnt go very far

Here is an example. Natasha grew up in this poor Eastern Russia village. Honest open hearted video .. I learned that Russians in the countryside put fences along the front yard..because they all grow food gardens etc...even though Natasha grew up poor..she said it was a wonderful life growing up..playing outside.. kind of a farming life...is that really so different than some of our rural communities?

I’m thinking Natasha must have lived in a different type of poverty in her little village .
When an old lady 89 years old has to grow potatoes to live on ( adding some sugar to mashed potatoes as a treat ) then I’m thinking that’s not such a wonderful life .
I honestly have never seen anyone have so little in their life . I’m not so sure either that it was a good idea to bring them over as what they didn’t have they couldn’t miss but once they saw it then their life would never be the same .

But again it is only safer in certain places . When we bought the old lady a padded jacket she rolled it up and stuffed it inside the jacket she was wearing as she thought she would be mugged for the jacket .
Obviously where they were from ( small village outside Pastavy ) had extreme poverty but the point is nowhere is any different from anywhere else .
Yes , the video you posted looked nice but if you were to go to villages like where my relatives stay you would be horrified and scared for your safety
