What part of "transition" do folks not understand..

Even gas stations were few and far between in the beginning of the auto age. If she had used a "route planner" (there are many)...It would have adjusted her route to hit appropriate& available DC fast charger charging stations to complete her trip: but early electrics are not for idiots. You need to think about your trip. But don't think this is not improving every single day going forward.

Maybe the mentally ill bitch should have carried a gasoline generator in her "frunk" instead of a bag of rainbow colored dildos. FACT.

Get a patent on the idea, it's going to be pure gold for somebody
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78757356

When the idea of gasoline/electric hybrids first came about in the '90's they were planned to be powered by small gasoline generators charging batteries that powered the electric drive motor. That was about 10yrs before the first hybrids hit the streets.

I must be missing something.....isn't the whole idea of ELECTRIC VEHICLES supposed to be to ELIMINATE the use of "fossil fuel?"???

This doesn't sound it does that.

In fact, NOTHING about this whole "electric" fiasco sounds like it does anything about the need for FOSSIL FUEL to move those EV's.

funny

if consumers wanted electric vehicles, the government would not need to force the issue going forward.

but we don't,

Where are the metals going to come from? Mining output and investment has been in decline for decades, and metal mining is an EXTREMELY energy intensive activity. Using VAST amounts of diesel in trucks bigger than the grandest McMansion. Have you taken a gander at the oil supply / demand problem moving forward? Have you seen that OPEC+ isn't fulfilling their production quotas? Where's the energy and metal going to come from to build out this electric utopia? I won't even get into generation and transmission capacity. If "go green / electrify America" was a serious initiative, it would have started decades ago, and the investments would have taken place to enable it. Those investments aren't there. Neither is the energy (hydrocarbons / liquid fuels) available to build it out. The "electric" push will fail spectacularly (as it is - see Germany, etc.) and the people who don't care about money have known since its inception. The idea is to be able to say "well, we tried but it just didn't work". In the hopes that people will buy that story, and be peacefully complacent in their reduction in energy (liquid hydrocarbons) consumption. That axiomatically leads to a lower standard of living, and shorter lifespan. The availability of cheap readily available energy is ending for the average citizen. Can't print energy. Electrons will NEVER replace liquid fuels (hydrocarbons). At least not in terms of convenience, affordability, portability, reliability, etc. It's not even close.

Re: Bwaahahaha… Climate change activist suffers electric car calamity
Former San Luis Obispo mayor and climate change activist Heidi Harmon attempted to “do the right thing,” and travel to a rally in San Francisco in an electric car. After multiple attempts to find a working charging station in San Jose, Harmon realized charging the car would take up to seven hours and there was no way she could make the rally. Harmon posted multiple videos about her difficulties in traveling in an all-electric vehicle. She discusses calling the police or asking someone to send a helicopter to rescue her.

 Quoting: John Dutton

We could send a helicopter to come get her but the helicopter is on the charger right now. Should be charged up in about 6 weeks.

Re: Bwaahahaha… Climate change activist suffers electric car calamity
"Transition" is the right word to describe what's going on, but not the "transition" most people think is happening. The average citizen is being "transition"ed to consuming less energy in the form of liquid fuels (hydrocarbons). The meat isn't scarce. The lumber isn't scarce. The liquid fuel to run the farms and the trucks is. Well...liquid fuel isn't "scarce" per se. It has become too expensive to extract and bring to market for most people to afford. In a capitalistic monetary based economy built and run on liquid fuels, that just doesn't work.

So the idea is that the "liquid fuel" club needs to get smaller and smaller, so only people who can afford to pay will get the "stuff". The meat. The lumber. The transportation. The healthcare. The technology. All the energy intensive services and activities we've become accustomed to are about to become a luxury only the super wealthy have access to.

It has to do with energy. Primarily the cost (energy and monetary) of extraction. The oil based civilization is winding down. Rich folks want that lumber for their kids to be able to buy. So they're increasing the price of lumber (and anything else of value) to ensure their kids can have the fossil fuel lifestyle. But in order to do that, they have to price a segment of the population out of the market. So the product remains, it's just too expensive for most people to afford.

It costs more to find, extract, and bring to market fossil fuel than they can ask people to pay without wrecking the economy. If you find the graph (there are a few good ones) of the price energy companies can afford to pay to extract the product, and the price the consumer can afford to pay for it, those lines have now crossed.

The energy companies need more money to stay in business than the average person can afford to pay for their product. Rich folks have seen this coming for years, and it looks like they've finally decided it's time to tighten up what is available (affordable) to who.

Personal transport, and air travel are on their way out for the average person. The electric initiative will fail, and they know it. There is nothing that comes close to the energy density and convenience hydrocarbons provide. All the hype about "electrify America" is just so they can say they tried, and hopefully people will not get too riled up when they realize they no longer belong to the "single mode transport" club. Mass transit, bike, or walk for middle class very soon.

Absent a solution that I haven't seen, the "winding down" will continue. Technology is not energy. Technology REQUIRES energy. The problem is geological, and the elites know that the clock is ticking.

I've watched this coming for over 15yrs. The "shale miracle" bought us about 2 yrs. Now we're sitting back where we were around 08-09. With a lot of bankrupt shale companies and angry/broke investors. Getting back to "normal" isn't going to look at all like what people think. What we've been doing the last 150yrs or so isn't "normal". What's normal is what we are moving toward, and most people have no idea what's involved.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72946100

Except nothing that you state is actually true. Oil and Gas production is not declining in the least, and new light oil is being found all the time. The Saudi reserves in their largest basin of light oil is projected to be good until at least 2077, and the projection is always an underestimate. Even as massive as the Saudi reserve is, it pales in comparison to the oil sands reserves of heavy oil, which refining efficiency of conversion is quickly becoming a reality. Canada's heavy oil reserves alone are estimated at more barrels than the entire world's estimated light oil reserves. The earth has 'fossil' fuel energy sources for many millennia, and scientists are eventually going to find out that the idea of oil from purely organic matter sources is not 'settled'. Many, many, very intelligent people have stated thus, but just like the medical cabal, people stick their heads in the sand and claim they know everything there is to know about the origins and earth supply of hydrocarbon based energy.

What you HAVE been doing for the last 15 years, is reading environmentalist rags stating everything you have wrong in your post, and becoming a True Believer.

The reasons for the current madness of the world's sociopaths is not "Rich folks want that lumber (etc.) for their kids to be able to buy." They see themselves as gods and the rest of us as cattle, and cattle are to be slaughtered. That's all there is to it. They are evil, and evil has no bounds.

This is LITERALLY that black mirror episode!

Season 3 episode 1

If you've never watched that show. DO IT! NOW!

It's that haunting and interesting.

Similarities between that episode and this scenario:

1. Social media involvement for personal problems

2. Irony of convenience of electric cars actually ruining mobility

3. Main character in that episode and in this Instagram story both miss superficial events that they are riding on for social credibility due to electric car mishaps. Only major difference is it was the social credit score not allowing the character in the show to drive a car, not a failure of infrastructure.

To further analysis of the insanity, consider how this woman is dressed. Wearing Chinese made "climate change" shirt, slave labor made makeup, fake flowers in her hair... All the while she's figuring out the lunacy of this whole agenda.

Charging stations are still industrial waste. They're in giant paved over sections of land. There's not enough of them, they're not fast enough, they're putting a huge burden on electrical infrastructure which is still causing massive pollution...

I could go on and on.

Don't be the dumbass that buys an electric car.

I thought this was figured out in the 70's?

What changed?

This is why I do not regret being educated. Truly educated, not indoctrinated.

I especially love that I came from a "hick" family.

We figure shit out at all costs, even if it's a metal coat hanger and pantyhose.

These idiots have their hand held everywhere they go.

No skills, no talents, no real purpose... It's truly sad.

These will 100% be the first people to perish in a grid-down scenario.

I can survive in the woods for at least a month with nothing more than my 60lb pack in. With weapons and a decent shelter there'd be no limit.

Because I've practiced since a child.

I quite enjoy the quiet of it all honestly.

Nothing was more therapeutic than the big hunt in September.

Have filtration for water down (many many methods), fire starting, foraging and hunting and you'll make it. It's a bonus if you or a loved one have skills with natural remedies as well.

EV's will NEVER catch up.

Tesla's stock will crash.

There's a guy in YouTube that will never buy another electric car because he has to wait in line sometimes for an hour or so to get his turn at charging his car. Then he has to wait for the car to charge. Pain in the A--.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77082211

There must be a planner somewhere for that waiting line, too.

Or even better idea, an auction style bidding app to kick off from the charger the other sucker who arrived earlier but you are paying more for the privilege.

And another app to rate those down who won't unplug instantly for being outpriced and start mouthing instead or beat up the much inportant person who stopped their charging.

If you get a hybrid you can make your own electricity.

But no. That is too fucking easy.

Next they will be selling us Flintsone Mobiles.

And think about this. No new power plants are being built to meet the demand of all these EV's. They should be building DOZENS of them NOW if we were all REALLY switching to EV's.

What is really happening is that we are all being set up to have all of our personal belongings & wealth stripped from us as part of the Great Reset. You are being set up to have your right to personal transportation being stripped from you. because (remember), by 2030 you will own nothing but you'll still be happy (or else).

That's close in my submission, but they don't care about your "things". They was to curtail fossil fuel hydrocarbon consumption. So their kids might be able to participate in a fossil fuel lifestyle. In order for that to happen, a portion of the population has to be priced out of the market. That is what we are and will be witnessing moving forward.

Abolishment of private property is the bedrock principle of Communism. Ask Karl Marx.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44883436

What's going on in the world (covid, supply chains, "hacks", etc) has to do with energy. The "property problem" will solve itself as a byproduct. The goal is accomplished with the victim working toward their own demise under the guise of "going green". It's fascinating to watch people voting for, applauding, and investing in an initiative that can only result in a drastically lower standard of living, and a lower life span for THEM.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72946100

This. and look at how the dumb kids embrace living in a tinyhome and a van. Because it is "cool".

And all major urban areas are now starting in the process of rezoning single family residential zones into duplexes and triplexes. This should be complete in a decade or so.

It is a voluntary reduction in lifestyle and they aren't even aware of it.
