This is one of the largest possible ice events I can remember. Ice brings down power lines. If we see outages across multiple states a number of you may be relying on wood heat, gas stoves, and IBGs...

Everyone has different access to preps. Some have a full propane house gen backup, some tons of battery storage from a proper solar system, many of you though probably fall into the IBG category.

For most of you out there with IBGs... "Iddy Biddy Generators"... you have limited capacity the heat "space" with electric.

A standard space heater is 1500 watts. If you have a small generator this will run it at pretty fair load. Burning though gas quickly. Your roads and access to fuel, especially if pumps are down may be limited.

A small inverter generator with eco mode, or a decent sized battery bank... you can run a heated blanket for much longer with much much less draw.

"HEAT THE PERSON not THE SPACE".

Placing a heated blanket on your couch you and your family can post up, stay super toasty, and only draw between 50 to 100 watts max off your solar battery bank or IBG.

I wish I had one. I got two sleeping bags, mylar, and up to 3 layers of cloths. 2 sleeping bags, and extra afgans.

Don't try heating the whole house....pick a small interior room for the family to gather in....a small buddy heater with safety features can quickly warm the room without running continuously....have a CO detector in that room for added safety....

Most of this will be a sleet storm, not an ice storm. Too cold in the lower levels to be as much ice as what's being said. Models are showing this finally, sleet won't bring down anything.

I keep an electric blanket 100 watt max in the RV. Also have a USB seat heater 10W that I tuck into my snow shoe jacket and use a power bank in the pocket.

They lost a power line at the dam due to ice on the wires so I have spent two weeks without grid. Solar works in the winter even under snow but at only a little. A 5000 watt array only produced about 2kw a day.

Use the little tablet as your tv to keep kids entertained.

Those old Coleman camp lanterns toss out 10,000 btu and lots of light to read by.

You need at least some ventilation and a CO2 detector.

Pick your smallest room close to the bathroom. Put up a blanket to keep the heat in that zone.

Steal water from the water heater to drink. Use a bucket to flush the toilet once a day.

Toward the end I was sleeping in a tent inside that small room.

I have hot water bottle fur covered, metal ones, wood stove , kombucha heater , flashfish.

I'd put the kombucha heater in my tent running on flashfish.

Then how do you drain the house is the biggie.

When pipes burst people didn't run to even shut the main.

Find out where your main shutoff is.
O I have those old school hand warmers you fill with lighter fluid too.

3 cords wood for stove.

Is pa even gonna get anything?

O I even bought those black square car heater that can run directly off solar panel. To bad I don't know how to hook that up.

Looks like a nothingburger for the most part in my area of PA. A bit of ice. If you're in the more northern and western counties you might get hit worse.
