Winter Storm GLP Check-In Thread

Fayetteville Arkansas here. 2 AM and its starting to pile up, maybe an inch or two. Suppose to snow all day tomorrow though so it could get bad.

I hope so, I could use a snow day :)

N. Central Texas (north west of DFW). What was supposed to be 0.01 to 0.1 inch of ice before the snow started became hours of sleet, at least 1.5", before the snow started. While we didn't expect that, so far so good, thankfully.

Roads are shit.if we have to go we have the right vehicles for it AND know how to drive on it. At the same time, unless there's an emergency we have no need to go.

We're also better prepared than many as we have alternate forms of heat and cooking should the power go out.

Very thankful, and hoping others are able to stay safe and warm.

Central Oklahoma has a few inches I think it's about done. I made biscuits and watched out the kitchen window. Just beautiful out there!

Never mind. It's not done yet.

Snow plows just blocked me in. Time to go clear it! Wish me luck.

Here in Canon City, which is in south-central Colorado, we got around 8" of snow yesterday and a bit more today. Right now it is C-O-L-D outside,,, -5 degrees F. and still dropping. A real three dog night!

Been watching the radar.

There have been hours and hours to come of ice across a large area and several big cities.

Looks like a nitemare.

Thousands of flights have been grounded as 88 million people from Texas to new England are under winter storm warnings or advisories. This has caused trouble in the skies, including at Tampa International Airport.

As of 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, FlightAware shows 64 cancelled flights in and out of Tampa International Airport and two delays.

After ice half the night we are in a winter mix, supposed to get half inch of ice and about 3 inches of snow.

North Central Ohio....maybe 3 inches so far. What was the big deal about this storm? Another dud !

It's just starting

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to round 2!

We woke up this morning to 30-40 mph winds out of the north and heavy freezing rain. Only a dusting of snow overnight. We have a 100-pound Alaskan Malamute. We let her out to do her business and when she tried to come back up the porch steps the wind blew her sideways across the ice-covered step and back down to the ground. She looked up at us like "WTF?" and I had to go out and help her up the steps. Says a lot for a dog that is bred exactly for this kind of weather.

Fully expecting a power outage due to the high winds.

Luckily most of the mixed precip is sleet instead of freezing rain, only a few places getting heavy freezing rain. Should minimize impact quite a bit to a bad road nuisance rather than real power outage concern.

They are saying we got 4-6 inches so far with more on the way.

Near Downtown Dallas: Freezing rain late last night turned to non-stop sleet coming down light to moderate. It is light right now at 8:05 am Central. On the pavement near my work building, the ice is about an eighth of an inch deep. Grass tips are still visible.

The work crew is light. They put some of us up in hotels last night, and some camped out in the building (We have showers and a full kitchen. They snagged up cots from Emergency Management.)

Our 850-bed hospital had 200 + empty beds because we only have staff to operate 600-something beds, so medical staff are bunking in hospital rooms while hoping that cafeteria staff were put up in hotels.

Some day people will understand that sleet doesn't cause major issues except on the roads themselves. Sleet doesn't cause power outages on its own.

As long as the roads are passable, DHS can bring in several million more illegal invaders while you sit quietly.

Little Rock,AR here, we have lots of sleet several inches thank God thats it noice to stick to trees and power lines!!!!
