Why are people suddenly dropping from Delta, after direct exposure months ago???

I know of at least 5 people, one being my own mother, supportive of voluntary Covid vaccination, but chose not to be vaccinated for Covid (my mom didn’t get vaccinated due to numerous bad reactions to vaccines/medications in the past), who are in the hospital (or very close to it) with Covid pneumonia now. My mom is fighting for her life. They say it’s delta, not omicron. Thing is, she was directly exposed to delta several times during the months delta was at its peak here, and she never got sick. She literally ate and drank after one of her kids who was sick with delta, and slept in the same bed with the kid and she didn’t get sick. She was taking care of the sick kid for several days, and she never got sick. A month or so later, she was directly exposed again, through her mother, for several days, but she never got sick. The other 4 individuals all had similar direct exposure over several days, and they never got sick.

A couple of weeks back, my mom was helping a family pack up their home to move out. Their son stopped in with his kid, and the kid was a little sick. My mom was hardly around any of the people for long at all. The sick kid was barely around anyone else. But somehow, my mom got sick with delta.

My in-law grandpa has been directly exposed to literally everything, through his job at a hospital. He never got sick until recently, when he was at a party and a friend said they were taking their kid home cause the kid wasn’t feeling well. That’s the only kid he knows of that he was around that was ever sick. Now in-law gpa has Covid pneumonia. My aunt has a similar story, as do two other neighbors.

None of them are vaccinated, all of them were directly exposed for a long time months before getting it, now they’re fighting to breathe. Has this happened to anyone else???
