WaterLight is a portable lantern that can be charged with salt water or urine

[link to www.google.es (secure)]

Any tips for preps ? - Page 4 Waterlight-wunderman-thompson-edina_dezeen_2364_col_2-1536x864

Colombian renewable energy start-up E-Dina has developed a cordless light that converts salt water into electricity as a more reliable alternative to solar lamps in off-grid communities.

The portable device, called WaterLight, needs to be filled with 500 millilitres of seawater – or urine in emergency situations – to emit up to 45 days of light.

Acting as a mini power generator, the device can also be used to charge a mobile phone or another small device via its integrated USB port.

Created in collaboration with the Colombian division of creative agency Wunderman Thompson, the project was designed as a stand-in for solar energy, which is often used to supply remote locations but which is weather-dependant.

"WaterLight can be more efficient than solar energy lanterns because it regenerates instantly," said Pipe Ruiz Pineda, executive creative director of Wunderman Thompson Colombia.

"Once filled with water, the energy delivery is immediate while solar lanterns need to transform solar energy to alternative energy to charge batteries and they only work if there is sun."

A large can of Crisco - add a candle pushed down into it and voila. It will last for many more hours than a single candle. Then there is the Crisco Candle heater for 72 days.

"The EASIEST way I have found to make EMERGENCY heat! for EVERYONE. How to make light that last 72 days. I show you how easy it is to make Crisco candles if you have No Electricity or the power goes out! STAY WARM with this very simple low cost way of making clay pot heater and crisco style emergency candles. Emergency candles that burn incredibly long has never been so easy. Anyone can do it. Making Emergency Heat and emergency candles should be a tool and Prepping skill that everyone should be prepared for. Whether it is a winter power outage, major cold front, if you lose electricity or a pandemic has made chaos. What ever the emergency is, when SHTF you need to have this skill Prepper Ready.

Some say we are approaching more dark winters, Dark winter ? not sure exactly what that means but dark winter sounds cold and no electricity maybe due to power outage or loose electricity, which would mean more need for emergency heat and emergency light, that is were this emergency heat and light for 72 days comes into play crisco candles will give you that emergency light and emergency heat for a very long period of time! So that is more reason to consider buying the supplies for emergency heat and light for 72 day with these crisco candles before SHTF."

"I have seen this method used to heat small spaces without using natural gas, propane or electricity. A 3 pound can of vegetable shortening can burn for 8 hours a day for over a month. It seems to be a relatively safe method to generate heat in an emergency situation. All you need is a couple of terra cotta pots, 2 heating ducks, 2 small jars, 2 birthday candles, and a can of vegetable shortening."

Re: No Electricity Needed Heater
Buy a vented diesel heater from China.
They cost around $110. They put off a LOT of heat and are safe, fuel efficient and vent away the products of combustion. They do require a 12V car battery to run the little blowers on the unit and the glow plug.

That candle in a flower pot idea has been around forever and is a joke. very little heat output. Plus you will be breathing soot and CO. And it also put out water, which will collect and freeze into your insulation, negating its value as an insulator and collecting mold.

Here is a heater that puts out 5kw Electrical equivalent heat.
[link to www.ebay.com (secure)]

That is 17,000 BTU/hr

They have an 8 kW version that is 27,000 BTU/hr.

A normal car battery size battery should operate the unit for 2 days continuously.

I don't know what your candles put out in the way of heat, probably around 100 watts. 2% of the smaller diesel heater.

Re: No Electricity Needed Heater
Op, even if you had 100 candles burning it would NOT bring even a small room (12x12) up more than one or two degrees. Bliss Ninnies like you could actually wind up causing someone to be hurt or killed in a real emergency. There are so many other ways, proven ways, to stay warm that you shouldn't be advocating these hair brained, 5th grade experiments. If another idiot decides to take your Pea brained advice as their only heating back up, they could wind up freezing to death. If you want to prove that a tiny flame can create a miniscule amount of heat, fine. But don't be instructing people to use this stupidity in actual emergencies.

Re: No Electricity Needed Heater
I know a guy, who chooses to be homeless, but he holds a job and showers at planet fitness. You know, one of those guys.

Well he typically washes dishes in restaurants cuz he's already lived an awesome life and he can wash dishes, be as high as he wants, and has a lot of other perks. He's not trying to impress anyone.

Well anyways, working in dish you know where everything goes and where the trash goes and where the waste oil goes. Whenever convenient for him, he will load a jug of a waste oil, put it on his electric bike and haul it to his campsite in the woods.

Then he takes a bar mop, also from the restaurant, and pours the waste oil into a pot. He makes a phallic shape with the bar mop so it will wick the oil. He lights it on fire and voila. He has heat and light. He put this dangerous contraption in his tent so he's warm while he's playing his RPGS on his tablet.

Well one night he fell asleep with it burning and the bar mop sort of slumped over and made a very poor burning wick, and it filled his tent with soot.

When he woke up he couldn't figure out where he was. Everything was black. Like BLACK.

He finally made his way put of the tent and he was black from head to toe. Like you see in those youtube videos where people put their face in front of a diesel truck exhaust.

He had a cough for a month after that!

Miss you Pete. Hope your liking Vegas. Tell your mom hey for me!
