If people aren't getting oxygen to their tissue/organs they would be quickly dropping dead all over the place. Idk why the return blood is bright red, but it must still be delivering oxygen to the body anyway.

That kind of chronically low oxygen supply will eventually result in various cancers and other diseases developing that the body is unable to ward off. .
