It was very effective for the initial alpha strain… but the governments of the world bought too many doses from Big Pharma thinking the entire population would line up excitedly for a shot (I think only half of eligible adults get the flu shot each year so of course people wouldn’t be lining up for it). Big pharma doesn’t give refunds in its profit driven industry so now governments around the world are stuck with all these doses for strain that doesn’t even exist anymore, so they want to try to get their money’s worth (our tax dollars) by using up all the remaining doses for booster shots and whatnot.

If moderna and Pfizer released an updated shot that covers more strains like delta and omicron then maybe the shot would be more useful.
