The "men of the time" is so general and could be anyone. If 5'5" then Jesus did tower above them by almost a head. In a beautiful display with an actual life size copy of the Shroud of Turin at our church, I measured it at 5' 11" so almost six feet, quite tall for the time.

The church has been very generous in letting scientists have access to the Shroud but "trust the science" didnt scientist stupidly in the two times they had access take a sample from the cloth used to repair damage from a fire and from a woven repair area! A waste of opportunity. Finally in a recent better test the radio carbon of pollen on the fibers tested back 2,000 years and the test on the blood showed type AB, the same as is on the face covering cloth in Ovieto, Italy and in several miraculous liquifying blood held in various Catholic churches all the same. This blood type is the rarest in the world, only 3% of the world have it but Israel, 13% carry this.

There are many great books on the Shroud, latest by janice Bennet.

If you want a portrait of Jesus, google "The Vilnius painting of Jesus as the Divine Mercy". In the 1930s a Polish Nun was visited many times by Jesus and warned her of the horrendous war to come and lamented that people didnt come to him while they lived and seek his Divine Mercy, and showed her his heart full of mercy.Before he ended his visits and before she herself died in 1939,he asked her to go to Vilnius and have the artist there paint what he showed her of his Sacred Heart.Her superior allowed it and we have the beautiful legacy to this day,only I dont know how to copy it to here.It is much copied by other artist who ruin it, be sure to view the original by Kazimorowski.
