Why did the cop start arresting him with his back turned?

Why did he resist?

Why didn't he back up after resisting and threaten the resistor at gunpoint?

The officer's brain locked up on him when he got on top of him and started punching with both hands, all while the perp made not effort to punch back. If the bystander hadn't grabbed his arm to break him out of it, he would killed him and be looking at a manslaughter charge.

In his trial he'll have to explain each one of those blows and why he felt the need to deliver each one that followed the previous one.
