They have been quite common of late, if you have your infrastructure setup decently it's not all that hard to recover. It does take some time and money though. The real issue IMO is these attacks, while frustrating, are not crippling. BUT, what information was gathered during that time? The attacks may simply be gathering info for a larger crippling attack in the future. I am in the IT field and have gone through this scenario on multiple occasions. I've learned how to tighten things down in order to avoid this, but it creates confusion and pain for the users. The most likely attack vector is your own users, unknowingly of course. |
