Well,

Have had this Tecsun PL-880 in a faraday bag in an ammo can for a while now. Have broke it out maybe once a month to scan & see what there is.

I must say tonight is a busy night, or a clear night. Ohio & picking up clear from FL, TN, way up the east coast in english & even one in Nagara. Many more in other languages....

A true feeling of comfort knowing whatever TPTB do to the net or it's time for lights out.... least we'll have something.

*Those stations tonight are all from the built in telescopic antenna without the gain on, I cannot WAIT for $168 mag loop antenna with a remote rotor coming from AMZ... I have some high faith in what I will be able to hear :D

This is probably a dumb question but does anyone know of a radio/rig that will get both CB channels and shortwave?

Thanks

CB radio is 26.965 to 27.405mhz. Most(not all) shortwave receivers cover it. My smallest is an old Grundig and it does Not receive CB.

It is not a bad idea at least to educate that there is a short wave ham radio communication .. and to educate on how to get and use one.. but for the most part it is pointless.. If WW3 happens only a super small percent will be talking to each other and it will not even matter you will be all alone with dead air

I have a little short wave radio, but I've never used it.
I also have a couple of a popular brand of hand held radio, which once again, I have not used.

I feel like a bit of ass, but...

Anyone who can offer a few tips
because I KNOW I am not alone on this!

In fact, I'm 100% CERTAIN there are many on GLP
who have purchased such equipment
and have not even opened the box.
Because know we're "prepped".
Right?

I'll appreciate anything you can offer.
And this info is then stored on the GLP Server
and maybe someday, we will still be able to access this.
Hopefully.

If you're willing to spend that mush on a very overpriced piece of wire, you should consider a couple of things to buy instead of the fancy toys.

First would be the ARRL Antenna book. You can either buy it or download it for free from a site named zlibrary. just search that on yahoo, second hit.

Second is to check out klingenfuss books. These are the goto manuals for radio frequencies and who is on them. [link to klingenfuss.org (secure)]

Have fun...

Indeed as Youtube is just always reviews (pisses me off)... I have found the FB Shortwave groups are rather damn handy for getting Frequencies & times.

Indded we all have gear that we "know" how to use.... but best to learn now I'm finding.

Still storing it back into the EMP storage every damn time, annoying....

I do have an expired HAM license, and UV5Rs, newer UVS9s, and play with them often, also have cabling & larger antenna I'm happy with for when SHTF.

Will I be alone in the air come lights out, I don't believe so. Sure I can't transmit world wide, but don't want to. I feel it's a good investment & a few will be out there. *Why I found a radio with great auto scanning, just let it run.

I could transmit with a UV5R if I felt MacGyverey enough, such as this quick video...
