I can't put a number on it, but that officer literally saved 100+ lives with her action. Those runners were caught in a death trap between being creamed by the car or jumping to their deaths.

I used to drive over that bridge every day for work (the new one). The old one was demolished and replaced after a tanker took out some of the concrete pillars and collapsed several sections of the bridge in 1980. It was a very foggy morning and the tanker couldn't see the bridge structures. Drove right into one.


VERY horrible scene of cars who had no idea the sections were missing and drove right off the bridge down into the water to their death.

Well, it was replaced, and is much higher than the old one was (and - I presume stronger?). So, one morning I was on my way to work and there were ambulances racing up the bridge....I got to the top and there was a cop, his car parked next to an abandoned car. He was looking over the railing....

Sure enough, someone had jumped in!!! Lucky for that person, they "only" broke their legs. AND there was a fishing boat nearby and were able to get to them and pull them out. Sorry, can't remember if it was a man or woman jumper.

I'm sure they spent some considerable time in a place with padded walls....

Airbags are about the only way to survive something like that. When it happened to me, I found myself standing on the dashboard before the car came to a stop. Somehow I had slid out of my seat without realizing it, as I was across the whole of the car's interior. And all I did was rear-end a dump truck, that I didn't realize had stopped. Good thing I was only going 50 MPH, or I might have been injured. Oh, my car is too old to have a dash cam.

That's gonna leave a mark.

I survived one, I only have bits and pieces of memories, but I remember being slammed into the windshield, then being cut out of the car, then loaded into a helicopter, then nothing until the next day. It was quite something

Similar experience. Guy slid on ice into my land. Head on at 55mph each. I don't remember it well.

I remember leaving my body on the way to surgery. I saw the room from above for a few seconds then I woke up the next day.

Broken back, pelvis, compound fracture of all three bones in my arm, punctured lung, ruptured kidney.

No living through that. Black ice can be a killer...heh, I've danced with it before. Once you hit it, no control, so very scary. Nobody was hurt though. No crash, but still scary. My client was screaming, and then started crying....lawdy, what a mess.

1- If I never have that happen to me, why would I need to see it now?

2- If it were to happen to me, I'll see it then. There's no need to see it twice.
