Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21018097 I betcha they will. Yep! You will be allowed by the government to hate certain groups of people such as Russians, white people, straight people, males, conservatives, Christians etc and any new boogie man the government comes up with. |

User ID: 77473202 United States 03/11/2022 02:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | a new law being proposed is one of the most broad and radical to date. Quoting: DeploraVision ™ Legislation known as Bill C-36 is something for Americans to keep a close eye on. Here’s how it would work: Canadians are encouraged to report their fellow citizens to the authorities, and people could then be taken to court and penalized before they even post something online – assuming their motive to be hateful. That’s right. A person can get in trouble for something they are suspected of intending to post (what government defines as) “hate speech” online. ‘So,’ you might ask, ‘someone could be punished for something they haven’t even done yet?’ Yup. One Canadian citizen, VP of Communications for Substack, Lulu Cheng Meservey called attention to what she referred to as “Alarming aspects” of this new law including: 1) Fuzzy and circular definition of “hateful” speech (“involves detestation…stronger than dislike”) 2) Encouraging citizens to report on one another — creepy 3) The ability to punish people for something they haven’t actually done yet (!) So in the year 2022, according to this legislation, this crime is defined as “a discriminatory practice to communicate or cause to be communicated hate speech by means of the Internet or other means of telecommunication in a context in which the hate speech is likely to foment detestation or vilification of an individual or group of individuals on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.” If a Canadian citizen “fears on reasonable grounds that another person will commit” hate speech online, or “an offence motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other similar factor,” they can turn in their neighbor by giving the information to a Canadian court. [link to harbingersdaily.com (secure)] :canadian-distres: It's amazing how few people pay attention. You can be charged with intent to commit arson, assault, robbery, burglary, forgery, battery, abuse, rape, murder and several more. Whether or not you did anything wrong or even really intended to is beside the point, we're talking about the "law" here. These intent charges and specific laws regarding intent have been around for decades. We have intent where hate speech is concerned already, you can be charged for being in possession of materials that an investigator determines "supports or encourages" white supremacy including if you post them online and including being charged, tried and jailed for driving past a crowd of protesters with a rebel flag. All charges of intent carry fines and potential jail time and all of them are a reality in the US as well as Canada and dozens of other western nations. Our governments sold us out long ago and started controlling speech long ago. Do we need more of it? No but face reality, we're already living in 1984. We lost most of our rights decades ago because no one would listen and everyone want to think they were right. Parts of the US and Canada are holding on but they're alone in the fight and losing ground every year with almost no support from politicians at all. None of this is new and those who think it's only happening in Canada, pull your head out of your ass and wake up. |
