It's interesting that, when someone laments prices that can't be sustained by normal people for food, most of the responses sum up to be: "Why are you eating so much" or "That's bad for you anyway."

That wasn't the point.

It's scary to live in a world that is falling apart, and a lot of people are going to be dying of things, for reasons, that we haven't had to face in our lifetimes.

Prepare as best you can, and understand that you, personally, may not make it. Delusion will not aid you in this. It's time to face reality and understand that things are about to get really dark.

Eeach Day: 1 can of soup, a couple apples, a few shots of whiskey + (supplements for the minerals/vitamins you might not get from that) = about 2000 calories.

you can easily live off of it.

in fact 15 years ago i did that for 6 months and got in great shape on that sort of regiment

It's enough for one meal if you have a couple pieces of bread with it.

the cheapest you're gonna eat for a day anymore is $10-12 if you want to enjoy the food you're eating.

You ASSume a LOT! Many people have no kitchen. Ever thought about that?! How you gonna make soup when renting a room out of some dumbass that lets you no access to kitchen, freezer, stove or laundry room!? They don't allow a burner in your room or they'll smell it and kick you out. Besides your overpriced room is too damn small for that! You're lucky if they let you use the microwave. I had to eat frozen food cold. As in defrosted to room temp. So cans is the way to go: open, use spoon. Discard.

Not sure where you are shopping, but Campbells Chunky Soup is often $1.79 at local Food Lion chain here in NC and not much more at Walmart, where I work.

Re: 1 can of chunky soup is NOT ENOUGH and costs $3 a can now?
All soups start with either onions celery and carrots or onions, celery and bell peppers.

That's, spicy and salty and sweet.

You can freeze veggie scraps for this step.

Have bay leaves on hand. A bay leaf makes all the difference.

Extra carrots, onion and celery for bigger chunks in soups.

Split pea is by far the easiest and most forgiving, lentil is next.

Split peas and lentils are a dollar a bag.

Pasta Fagioli is equally easy. A box of ditalini, a can of bean and a can of crushed tomatoes.

I make mine vegan, but pork fat and scraps in soups if you so inclined.

A fist full of barley works in all soups to fill it out.

It costs about $5 for 2 quarts of soup, $6-7 for organic.

Keep cans of beans and tomatoes on hand, dried peas, lentils and pasta. Freeze all veggie scraps for stock, save pork fat, have bay leaves.

Chunky soup is like $.20/ounce, whereas homemade is about $.09/ounce, $.12-15/ounce if you make it organic.
If only we could, somehow, get food to grow on trees ...

Add pasta.

I used to do this when things were a bit difficult financially.

It's fairly decent with the chicken corn chowder.

Season to taste.

OP,

Every Month, I make a Huge pot of Chicken Soup, Beef Soup, Chili, Red Beans and Rice.

We then, eat 1/2 and freeze 1/2. And when ever we want soup or chili, simply thaw it out over night and re-heat on the stove the next day, (I don't use the microwave) ....

Head of cabbage, some rice, some green onions, garlic, celery and carrot sticks all sautéed in some olive oil. Add hamburger meat or chicken if you want. Egg rolled or not.

Add some teriyaki or Yoshidas sauce.

Very filling and tasty. Last for a few days too.

So how is this 2000 calories again?
