Appliance repair tech here.

Hopefully it's GE. Since Haier bought them out I knew they were destined to fail. Plus, I hate working on GE appliances.

I highly doubt it's LG. LG and Samsung aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I had a couple of LG appliances back in the day. They were nice. Going back to beating my clothes on a wet rock soon with what is coming.

With todays crappy and expensive washing machines they would probably be cleaner.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78400796

they really are pretty crappy..used to last for decades with a few repairs, now if you have a problem with the new ones..the repair guy says you are better off buying a new one

It’s a throw away society. Manufacturers don’t make money when we repair things.

GE = Shit appliances.

Used to be the best. Now shit.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78093466

GE does WAY more than appliances. They have factories all over nation and their biggest business comes from contracts with raytheon, boeing, (military) etc.

They build what the war machine orders.

If this guys is talking about GE he's a liar.

Whirlpool in Clyde Ohio shut down.

No layoffs … shut down!!!

They were only temporarily shut down and laid off due to supply chain issues. They are expected to start returning back on Monday.

Re: Major appliance manufacturer beginning layoffs...
This news story will gain traction in the US bc of the story (clicks). In the grand scheme this is only a symptom of the real problem.
China is the source of most of our appliance goods, either in full or manufacturing parts. The cause isn't demand, it's supply chain. Until China stops locking down cities of millions under the guise of COVID We are fucked.
This is all part of a master plan by the CCP to choke off the western world, and remove the USD as the reserve currency. US politicians went to the printing press to many times and we are now in a death spiral. Btw, the US population technically deserves for being retarded fucks. Even if we stopped printing today, and jacked rates to 20% (think paul volker) inflation will not taper due to supply chain.
We are in WW3 using trade and economics. I have news for you. We are losing badly or have already lost.

Why this is a story now is beyond me. This has been a huge problem for 2 years.

FYI, I work for a bank. I'm not making this up.

Good luck, buy ammo and raw goods while you can.

Hey troll. There are about 20 plants in the US shutting down this month.

Pick a state. It’s an issue.

So tonight we went to Lowes and Home Depot to buy a washer and dryer and a refrigerator. The washer and dryer we wanted were in stock. The refrigerator was not. We started out at Lowes then went to Home Depot. The gal helping us told us that their store only gets 4 of this particular refrigerator. She said the factory is so low on workers and parts that they are getting very little inventory and she didn't think it would be getting any better any time soon.

Good riddance to garbage electronics/appliances. Stay 100% in your country of origin next time.

Worked in appliance repair for over 40 years. The maytag dependable care washers, the whirlpool belt driven washers and the speed queen washers of the mid 80's to the mid 90's were the best washers ever built. Nothing else can hold a candle to these washer/dryer pairs. What we have now is junk, which lasts only 3 to 7 years if your lucky....

My washer and dryer are Maytag from the 90's and still work beautifully. Of course, I have repaired them. I fix all my appliances.

The dryer needed a belt and the washer needed a timer and a lid switch. That's it.

It's been well known for a while now that most any large appliances made after the very early 2000s is junk and won't last long. Most appliances bought before the 2000s will last a long time if you don't abuse them. Those made until the 1970s will last around a lifetime!
