This is really, REALLY old news now, but back when this first came out - there were reddit threads & forum groups, facebook posts, and it just varied. Some people could smell themselves, other's weren't aware of it. You can still google it and go look at some of the old threads. There were office managers complaining about their office stinking, for example. A school nurse noticed her students that were vaccinated had a smell. There were tons of them that I read through. In general, people get used to smells. So it's all died down now. The OP is 100% true. I am an occasional smoker, i smoke a bit then take a break for a bit. (little cigars) and it's just a fact and it's not trying to be funny - they really do have a smell. At this point, I think most people are just used to it. When I quit, I'll get a craving about once every 3 minutes - I have to have that little 'battle' in my mind for about 30 seconds, and then 3 minutes later i'm doing it again. After couple days of that, It tapers and then I can focus more. But, yeah the 'enhanced' or 'normal' senses that return - do cause me to focus on the new sensations, which are distracting and sometimes overpowering.

And the blood sugar spikes are probably ketoacidosis, which is the sweet smell. Maybe? It's insane though. I was a good little sheep and wore my mask until we didn't have to (easier to go through life confrontation free than to have a political debate every time I need milk) and I was a smoker. Quitting for a week and no mask... It was like someone put contact lenses over my eyes and I could see perfectly but with the sense of smell instead of sight. I'm also on medications which could potentially cause a heightened sense of smell.

I hadn't really noticed anything until I recently quit smoking. Once my sense of smell started improving, I was disgusted by what I smelled. Yeah, also from some of the smells coming from myself, but holy shit people are disgusting. The grocery store, the gas station, everywhere. And being able to fully smell all the smells I was missing before? Good God is that the world that non-smokers live in? I couldn't take it anymore. Over the course of a few days, the urge went away to the point that I could not stand the smell of smoke. To this day, if I am driving and a car close by has someone smoking in it, I get sick smelling it and have to either roll up my windows or make sure the air circulation in the car is internal.
