That's awesome, care to share the knwoledge? I originally got the idea from my wife, who grew up as a poor farmer in China. When we went on local hikes together, she would pick and cook certain plants we had come across. At other times she would point out other plants that she knew were edible, though not tasty enough to bring back to eat. As I started researching local edible plants, I came across a lot of articles and videos. I also discovered that many inexpensive guide books are available that can be ordered online about edible plants native to certain geographical areas and how they should be cooked. I bought three on edible plants, one on local medicinal herbs, two on mushrooms and lichens in my area, and one on edible seaweeds on the east coast, since I live by the ocean. Whenever I go on hikes, I pick whole plants and bring them home to see if they are edible according to the books I have. If they seem to match, I'll try a little of that plant, and if my body's reaction is fine, I'll gather more and eat that. If that doesn't produce a bad reaction, I'll bookmark that plant with a note about where it can be found. The books also warn about look-alikes and how they can be identified. Very few plants are actually poisonous, so making an intelligent mistake might result in minor indigestion. Last Edited by TGus on 03/19/2022 02:49 PM |

Quoting: TGus As a survivalist, I've learned that there are more than 250 nutritious types of "weeds" growing within walking distance of my house. As survivalist you will learn in practice that most of the things you learning were just bullshit from other people sitting on the couch and eating Doritos from the supermarket. I search for and eat a lot of those plants as part of my preparation. Not as good as Doritos, but I haven't died from it yet. It's valuable to know, but salad isn't enough to sustain you, time would be better spent getting really good at fishing, hunting, trapping, all three preferably. I wouldn't call acorn bread "salad". It has a lot of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. There are plenty of other examples. I do plan to fish, but hunting and trapping will be impossible where I live until SHTF. I do have low-power guns, traps, and guides describing how to process the racoons, possums, rats, ducks and geese in my area. |

User ID: 82395348 United States 03/19/2022 03:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My life is such that I can get by on extremely little. You "GOTS" it...me also...all my "JUNK" fits in my nice little old 2004 Honda Civic 2-door (mechanically perfect and totally rust free)...with much in silver and gold coins (I buy and sell). I have more "JUNK" than I need...and NO, I am not homeless, renting a nice place. But I have lived completely off the grid in a small cabin I hand built for 1 1/2 years on my own land (built for resale...did that twice). Also, wilderness camped with NO TENT, just a sleeping bag and a sheet of plastic in case it rained (rode my hybrid bicycle into the wilderness). Fasted, prayed and read the Bible for 7 days straight, felt worse when I started eating again! Worked out heavily almost every day... Inflation...meh...3 silver dimes buys me $5.42 worth of gas at "spot" value...but I get more than that in premium when I sell. If gas is $10.00 a gallon...my 3 silver dimes will probably still buy me 1 4/10ths gallon of gas as it does now (a little more or less)... Ozarkfreedom |

Pay the unsecured debt, deficiency judgement or not, for pennies on the dollar, or don't, and let it fall off your report after 7-8 years without ever acknowledging the debt. No debtor prisons in the states, and everything mentioned is 100% legal by their own system. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76016467 Still hold the tangible assets while they creep in price. Convert as needed for necessities as inflation pushes up prices. Yes, why not use the corrupt financial system to your favor; they've been using it against you all this time. Turn the tables. My personal problem with that strategy is that, in my heart, I'd consider it unethical, and I don't think I could do it with a clear conscience. Stealing will NEVER in the final result become profitable, got off the debt system in 2006, saw the housing crash coming in 2005 (one thing I was doing was flipping property), paid everything off. SOLD ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING (took 1 year!) except my tools, bought a 24 foot van body motor home (wholesale $4,000) with 50,000 miles (RV dealer couldn't get it running), I poured Sea Foam in both tanks, test drove it, left a few days later, drove it 6,500 miles in 1 1/2 months (without a single problem or added fluid), and of course sold it for a $2,500 profit. Bible based will always provide... Ozarkfreedom |

Honestly other than losing social media, life wouldn't change all that much! hahaha don't kid yourself other people are not responsible, hyper inflation entails a cataclysm for ordinary society because the vast majority of people are short sighted and oblivious to the danger. this will manifest itself as danger for you, and anyone they resent for not sharing their misery, you will become an object of jealousy an anger to them. no one will enjoy what is coming in any earthly sense. it is going to suck no matter if you are prepared or not. If it's simply economic problems, I don't think that'll kill many people. Please do any amount of research on the great depression & how many people died. My God women were literally suffocating their babies because it was better than them starving to death. You're idea that it just be "uncomfortable" is proof of how delusional we have been made by our extreme comforts. this. a dose of reality. poverty literally kills people and the masses are being frog marched into it. if people think that is being dramatic they aren't paying attention. the denial will only go so far until people reach a breaking point when fantasy is swept aside by reality. |

(already done) 2) Get a garden started. (already done) 3) Buy as much as I can of things I'll need in the long run. (I'm a prepper already) 4) Put my extra money, no matter where it is, into crypto, and maybe also things I can barter. (partially done) Once it hits, I'll do these things: 1) Don't buy anything I can do without. 2) Make friends with people who can be of mutual help. 3) Use my credit cards, but always pay the purchases as close to under 30 days as possible. This way I'll be buying things cheaper than they will be 30 days later, with no interest. 3) Assuming my pay goes up somewhat, pay off my mortgage as soon as possible. This is because fixed rates may be allowed to increase eventually. 4) Think of cheaper ways to do anything necessary. 5) Keep my precious metals until the hyperinflation is over. the biggest problem during the great depression was everybody lost their homes and had no place to live america only had a few million people then Now we have 359 million can you imagine the clusterfuck? Look how many are already living in the streets. Clusterfuck is an understatement. |

Got food stores that would last a few years but thats not counting gardening and hunting trapping fishing. You'll be surprised what you can do without. I remember when i was broke in my 20s over a period of afew months i barely remember eating. LIke one can of tuna and some rice every day. I got pretty lean. Not sickly cause i was into lifting before. Also walked everywhere. I'm working out of town right now but when i return i'm going to get my motorcycle license and buy a honda rebel 300. Looks cool but has a 70 mpg. under 5k brand new. Its not the fastest bike but thats not why i'm getting it. I'll use that for any of my trips to town. Time to start introducing rice and beans to my kids diet more during the week. Me personally i been on a bodybuilding cutting diet . I can eat the same stuff everyday its just fuel to me but kids can be different Also no more take out. My kids like pizza and movie on fridays. Pizza hut is too expensive. So i started making the pizzas instead. yeast flour cheese and tomato sauce. its easy and way cheaper. Time to start doing more things on your own. Also when i get home i'm stopping chewing tobacco. I stop when i go home from a job but start when i go to a job. I quit drinking a year ago. That alone saves me alot. Also quit buying nicer steaks when a cheaper steak will do. Good luck glp family. |
