Russia has for the moment a huge crisis of credibility regarding its armed forces, after the humiliating war in Ukraine. I have seen the picture of the Krasukha-4, now in Ukraine's possession after being abandoned intact by the Russians. Russia appears to be weak and that is why NATO is mobilizing to take advantage of that weakness. So in order to increase credibility, Kreml must do something totally crazy im order to restore its deterrence.
