Gold is the currency of kings, silver is the currency of gentlemen, barter is the currency of peasants, but #debt is the currency of slaves.

Silver Dollars, even the junk ones, trade at the highest premiums of all solver money.

Pre 65 Silver Quarters, dimes, and halfs is where its at. Good luck getting them at 20x face now, but its possible.

The server would think you're a cheap asshole and be more insulted than if you left no tip. They'd bitch about it the rest of the shift and at the end of the night they'd trade it for a dollar bill because it's easier than carrying a bunch of change.

That generous tip pissed off the server and you threw away $19, better off leaving a $20 ánd keeping the silver dollar yourself.

I won't be giving my silver away like that ..nope, I'm stacking. But I do like the idea though.

Well you are spending the $20 either way, this way it pushes up the value of your stack and helps people learn about honest money again.
 Quoting: DarthPaulson

Most servers would have no clue and think you were a cheap bastard that tipped one dollar.

Then theyd spend that dollar at face value.

I lost some of those to a boating accident, but my beef with those is they are even harder for people to know about than silver eagles.

Silver eagles are minted by the US government so completely legal.

The US government has debased and ruined the "face value" of quarters, dimes, etc. so they aren't easily identified unless people really study it.

Silver Eagles have much better "trust".

And that's why there is a premium on the value.

Maybe but probably would only happen once if they were curious and looked up the value online or told their friends about it.

It's worth roughly $20 so if you leave a silver dollar as a tip, it would force people to start using them as money.

sorry, I can't resist commenting.
Lunch for $80? is it like almost 8000 rubles?
in Russia, for this money, you can buy 16 excellent lunches in a cafe, or 8 chic dinners.
what's interesting is included in the $80 lunch in the USA?

As long as the face value is less than the content they will not circulate as money.

You would have to increase the face value to a point that is higher than the content in order for a coin to circulate.

The reason silver coins circulated in the past was that you could obtain an ounce of silver for less than 1 US Dollar.

As soon as miners demand to be paid more it is game over.

Nobody would use that as money, it would go to the restaurant and they would give regular cash as part of the tool pool that day. If you leave a tip, it does not just go to the server who served you, fyi.

The restaurant would just exchange the silver coin for something more practical.

Plus if you gave a waiter an oz of silver they'd bitch about you all week and the next time you come in they would spit in your food and still expect a $30 tip.

The dopey waitresses would be like "F-you cheap ass!" and take a picture of you and the tip and post it all over her social media.

She'll demand empathy and compassion from her fake followers only to find out that the silver dollar is worth close to $30.

She'll then call silver coins racist and misogynist in an effort to save face.

I'm a waiter at a steakhouse. If someone gave me a Morgan dollar on an $80.00 tab, I'd be quite happy. Most acceptable! I'd then add it to my pile.

I love silver and gold!

Start a business and only pay employees pre65 silver American coinage.

Yep, same trick can be used for buying stuff with gold (like a house).

I'll give you $800 in gold (16x$50 american eagle) eagles for your $320k house.

What’s an $80 meal now a days? Egg-a-muffin and coffee?

Where can I get $20 silver? My Delorean is in the shop.
 Quoting: Jayhawker

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking, I hadn't checked the premium on physical, DANG!

I wish there was a smaller but well known unit.

Quarters are already worthless because they took out all the silver many years ago.

They need a 25% silver dollar, or a new "dime" coin whose reputation isn't ruined.
