Strategically, it makes a lot of sense. Quoting: Shilliam the Third Please, explain to us what good sense this would make, Shilliam. ;) Admittedly, “strategic” may not be the best word, but my thoughts: Public Knowledge/Perception - Has had nuclear (weapon) capabilities since 2006 - Has a penchant for making threats, increasingly so since Biden - One of the “closest” nuclear threats to the US - Recently tested their most powerful ICBM after 5 years of silence - Strong alliance with China, and burgeoning one with Russia - Leader appears to be easily-influenced(?). If anything, we have recently been seeing just how powerful the shadows can be, and Kim is a strong “pawn” if tempted with the right honey. Potential as a “Pillar” to spark war - Incredible supply of untapped resources (potential wealth) - Surrounded by allies or negligible militant adversaries (exception of course being SK) - NK is heavily clandestine, so it’s difficult to have confidence in any back room dealings, military support from China (or others), etc - North Korea’s military assets are heavily mobile, remote, or “fire and forget”, such as nukes, troops, and hacking capabilities. - Because of the above, counter-nuking NK is hardly beneficial, and would have devastating diplomatic repercussions. - Similarly, a conventional “invasion” to prevent reoccurrence would look bad (less so than a nuke of course), and would likely be defended from China/Russia. Enter WW3. - NK civilians are far too weak/poor/scared to overthrow or flee an erratic leader, so the war will be inevitably supported. In short, they have the “least to lose” by nuking the US, and potentially the most to gain. I believe they are one of the few countries that can nuke another and NOT trigger MAD, making them the perfect candidate to usher WW3. And in the process, the US/NATO will be regarded as the savage superpowers that started the war. |

If NATO or Russia/China launches a nuke, I agree. I just feel like NK has been “groomed” so far as if it’s almost expected, and won’t “immediately” lead to MAD. But it will absolutely escalate tension heavily. Last Edited by Shilliam the Third on 03/27/2022 02:49 PM |

However, there are other uses for radiological materials, which are commonly used in medicine such as for cancer treatments, as well as for various applications in the industrial sector, which are also highly profitable. Kim Jong Un just wants respect and likely isn't interested in loans to get what he wants. He's another one who would base his country's currency on commodities, instead of a fiat monetary system based on debt as something of value. “Queen Sarah, save us from the Black Dog King!” - from the play, Dissocia [link to tasaonline.org.au (secure)] "Never be anyone's French poodle." - Mr Hamilton |
