Word is coming out of the Russian camp that their injuries are much worse and wide-spread than was first reported. Several career-ending injuries to key players. It may take years to recover, if they ever do.

In addition, their training regimen and in-game tactics were seriously exposed. Even with the late addition of experienced Chechen and Syrian players, the game was so lopsided in the second half that Russia's only option was to take deep and long-range attacks from their own end of the pitch. Which proved to only motivate the upstart Ukrainians and their youthful coaching staff.

This left the Russian goal poorly defended and the Ukrainian offense pounced on numerous opportunities to get behind the Russian defense and score repeatedly.
