This. I had alopecia areata for 7 years in my teens. My daughter developed it from ages 8-2. It's not a disease. It's a symptom.
It's an overactive auti-immune response, when your immune system won't shut off after exposure to a virus or streptococcus. You need to address the underlying immune system imbalance with vitamins, minerals, and herbal antimicrobial supplements
My daughter and I both have very thick full heads of hair now- I had to work this out on my own for both my daughter and myself- I grew up in a medical family, and I got subjected to a lot of medical college experiments for hair growth. Since when can you see the hair coming out of an alopecia patient's scalp? Every alopecia sufferer I've ever seen never had roots showing. They were always smooth as silk. You couldn't tell what color their hair was because they had no roots.
