What is coming is a more major societal breakdown where the police service will get slower to respond to troubled situations where the primary cause is simply a problematical health issue - be it mental or physical where people are not able to cope.

A Russian scientific project offers billionaires "immortality" by transplanting their brains into robot bodies
Media entrepreneur Itskov claims to have hired 30 scientists to achieve this goal - and intends to transplant a human brain into a robot body within 10 years.


"You have the ability to finance the extension of your own life all the way to immortality. Our civilization is very close to the creation of such technology: it is not a dream of science and technology fiction. It is in your power to ensure the achievement of this goal during your life", - Itskov appealed in a letter sent to billionaires according to "Forbes".

He appealed to the billionaires on the magazine's list to fund his quest for immortality - which Itskov calls "cybernetic immortality" and "an artificial body."

As part of the initiative, his San Francisco office is opening this summer and a social media project linking scientists from around the world is expected to launch.

"Team-2045 is working to create an international research center whose research and development activities will involve leading scientists in the fields of anthropomorphic robotics, living systems modeling, brain and consciousness. The group's goal is to transfer someone's individual consciousness into an artificial medium and achieve cybernetic immortality," states Itzkov's official website.

"Such research has the potential to free you, like most all people on our planet, from disease, old age and even death."

"For anyone interested but skeptical, I am willing to prove the viability of the concept of cybernetic immortality by organizing a specialized discussion with a team of the world's leading figures in science working in the field."

"I will also willingly and completely free of charge coordinate your personal immortality project for the sake of accelerating the development of these technologies."

"This project leads the way to immortality," Itzkov reasoned, "A person with a perfect avatar will be able to remain part of society. People don't want to die."

"I understand that scientists face very difficult tasks," Itzkov says, "But I believe in what you call the 'American dream.' If you put all your energy and time into something, you can make it come true.

Itzkow foresees a surgical "transplant" of human consciousness into a robot body within the next 10 years.

After that, he hopes to "upload" minds without surgery, where human bodies will remain empty shells while their hosts "live" inside robots.

The project is named "Avatar" thanks to James Cameron's film, set in a distant future in which human soldiers, waging war against the inhabitants of a distant world, use mind control to inhabit the bodies of human-alien hybrids.

"The next scientific achievement will be the creation of a new body for human beings," Itzkov says, speaking at the Global Future 2045 conference. - It will be the ideal interface between the brain and the machine for control, and the kind of life support system for the human brain in which the brain can survive outside the body."

Itskov says the system will primarily be of interest to "people with disabilities and people on the brink of death."

"The third stage will be the creation of an artificial human brain," he continues, "A computer environment into which people's consciousness can be downloaded.

His ultimate goal, he says, is to upload people's consciousnesses into holographic bodies.

Holograms offer many advantages. You can walk through walls, move at the speed of light, he decries. "Remember 'Star Wars,' the Obi-Wan hologram? That was pretty impressive."

Itzkow says he wants to work with DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense.

DARPA is already studying ways in which U.S. troops could use consciousness to remotely control androids that would take the place of human soldiers on the battlefield.

The Pentagon's high-tech division has earmarked $7 million for research on the project, also dubbed "Avatar."

According to DARPA's 2013 budget, "The Avatar program will develop interfaces and algorithms that enable a fighter to work effectively in tandem with a semi-autonomous two-legged machine and allow it to act as a replacement for the fighter."

This isn't true. But I like the analogy.

Discovery ships were loaded with wealthy Captains and Explorers. These people had skills in architecture, engineering, anthropology, languages, and cultivation.

They staked the claim on the new land and negotiated deals with the Native Americans for trade and commerce. They survived just fine with 100's of acres of land divided up that are still in families of the Original Colony ancestors.

There were no "poor" that were just transported to the New Land. Instead indentured servants were apprentices, usually from noble blood but of lower stature. They also had skills in farming, and accounting, as well as land surveying. There were tax collectors assigned by the King, and most of these people were enterprising.

So people can't be divided into Rich or Poor by definition. Because alot of wealthy people don't even know how to manage money. Yes, survival skills is what will separate who dies and who survives.

Survival skills in handling money is what modern society is judged on. That's not a good tool to use to designate a death sentence.
