OFFICIAL THREAD: The Johnny Depp/Amber Heard Trial

Pretty darn interesting! Johnny Depp sounds like a Monster! Guess insanity runs rampant in his life!

Well, consider the pathway Depp's walked. You don't play the kinds of intense characters he has without it affecting your psyche. From Nightmare on Elm St to Ed Wood to Edward Scissorhands to Donnie Brasco to Hunter S. Thompson [whom he knew] to Whitey Bulger to John Dillinger to his Viper Room, he's really gotten around! And he is one smart, talented man.

I'm a fan of Depp going back to when 21 Jump Street was first aired, so it's gonna' be interesting to see the depths of hideousness celebrities can spiral into.

I'm also reminded that astrologers have been saying this was going to be a period of great reveals where our collective eyes will be opened. Time for me to clean my bifocals so I get a clearer view!!

Not HARDLY! They both have enough bucks and earning power to make it all worthwhile in this no-holds-barred career maker-or-breaker.

Depending upon the verdict, one will have multi-million dollar projects as the other one waits tables at the Coyote Cafe.

And something tells me Depp would welcome either outcome.

Par for the course for a Hollyweird marriage, Johnny's got talent but he's a drunk, but Heard is a bat sh!t crazy..not a great combination.

Well, you know it's been said that demons feed off one another and we're about to witness a couple of ravenous appetites!

Call me "Karen" again and I'll come after you like one of Heard's attorneys. And BTW: should he take on the Bard, Depp would likely turn in a Hamlet that would leave you spellbound because the guy is fearlessly intense when he assumes a role... and this one's for a lot of professional marbles.

And in fact, back in 2012 he worked on adapting Shakespeare for a TV series that never got off the ground.

And anyone who doesn't think an actor's personality cannot be damaged by the roles he undertakes just doesn't get it. Just like the PTSD battlefield veterans experience, when a performer like Depp immerses himself into the mind of psychopathic killer like Bulger it does take its toll. But I tend to think Depp's association with Hunter S. Thomson likely had more of an impact on his behavior patterns as they battled similar demons of drugs and alcohol.

DAY ONE RECAP

Attorneys for the litigants delivered their opening statements and both were packed with invective and accusations.

Johnny Depp's sister, Christi Debrowski, was the first witness. Christi -who is 2-1/2 yrs older than Johnny- detailed their early childhood in a family with a Mother who was irrational to the point of violence and a Father who simply withdrew to avoid confrontation.

Christi stated that both she and Johnny counted the days until they could leave home, but when their Mother's health declined Depp stepped in, moved both she and Christi to Palm Springs and set them up in a home to preserve the family unit. Christi took a job first with Columbia Pictures before joining Depp's own production company where she became his personal manager.

When making hotel arrangements for Depp/Heard while he was filming, Christi would always book an extra room where Depp could escape their arguments... mimicking his own Father's approach to the aggression Johnny witnessed as a child.

Ultimately Depp's Mother returned to Kentucky where he health continued to decline and Christi and Johnny had lengthy discussions about placing her into a hospice. Depp was adamant about not stressing his Mom out by introducing such a new environment and instead paid to have 24/7 nurses she would feel more comfortable around.

Meanwhile the Depp/Heard relationship was increasingly rocky; while Heard visited Depp's Mother once on her own, it was usually only with Johnny with a "have-to" attitude.

Depp's mother died just as Johnny was due to leave the U.S. on a tour with his band. Christi made most of the funeral arrangements and while she was at the funeral home she learned that Heard had filed for divorce the day after her Mom's death; Johnny was in NY at the time. Heard followed up a couple of days later by filing a restraining order against Depp... all of this less than a week after his Mother had died.

Depp's team focused on building his positive character background; Heard's was more aggressive and attempted to discredit Christi, implying a conflict of interests in her job as Johnny's PM. To her credit, Christi did not trash Heard -and rarely took the bait- but instead answered in what sounded like total honesty when she described Amber as being emotionally distant.

Christi also detailed how Johnny bought a series of penthouse suites in an upscale L.A. apartment building and allowed Amber's friends and family to live in three of them rent free. During this exchange Amber sat rigidly stone-faced.

During the overall proceedings, Depp would alternatively hang his head low or gaze blankly into space listening to the testimony, clearly remembering his childhood as Christi's stories were told. In contrast, Heard sat upright and edgy like an animal ready to pounce. You can see strong family resemblance between Christi and Johnny as she sometimes flashes those big, dark eyes.

Depp's already arrived waving to the crowd as he did so, Heard has also arrived and was more direct as she entered.

Court should be gavelled into motion in about 15 minutes.
Depp's sister will resume her testimony under questioning by Heard's team.

So far today's testimony can be summed up in two words: "ISAAC BARUCH."

A friend of Depp's since they were teens in Florida, he comes off exuding honesty recanting his tales in a NY accent. And what tales they are - from working at Depp's Viper Room club [which has a history all its own] to going to community college to get his art degree and become an artist..but Depp wouldn't buy this paintings. Instead he offered him a full patronship and the next day Isaac moved into one of Depp's penthouse suites. Where Depp paid for everything -including some heavy medical bills- never expecting a cent back.

He heard Depp/Heard fight twice and remembers it vividly. And DAMN! Is he ENTERTAINING as he does so!

This kind of testimony comes along only once in a great while.

DAY TWO RECAP

In a single testimony, it was ISAAC BARUCH all the way! That guy dominated the courtroom in his lengthy, honest and compellingly entertaining accounts... he even made Heard crack a rare smile at one point.

He really slapped Heard's team around like a bunch of sock puppets missing a button-eye while making Depp's selfless generosity worthy of canonization. And if that's the way it really went down, he'd get my vote!

A lot is being made of Depp's "vicious" e-mail where he called Heard a cunt and wished her rotting corpse would be found in the trunk of a Honda Civic, so the media spin is already beginning. But, I laughed when I heard that reference to a Hondo Civic because it actually defused the intensity of the entire e-mail. And when Baruch simply stated that Depp had called him a cunt too, it only reinforced the casual use of such a "SHOCKING" word in the world of the rich and famous.

Too bad Depp's team diluted that powerful testimony with their ponderous -but necessary- inclusion of endless surveillance tapes.. which will probably prove to be vital later on, especially if we see that "fake punch" Amber and Whitney laughed about outside the mezzanine elevator that Baruch detailed so well.

And no, posting this does not mean I care.

Like millions of others, I tuned into the Simpson trial because it relentlessly dominated the media - which were largely responsible for that miscarriage of justice.

I'm watching this trial to see if history repeats itself and -despite solid evidence to the contrary- justice will again be ignored.

But nobody ever said YOU have to.

In this day when pejorative terms like "Karen" or "Nazi" or "Putin-puffer" are tossed around so casually, I'd say DEFAMATION should be on more people's minds than it is. Because it happens all the time around here on GLP where even civil alternative opinions are expressed.

Further it's crucial because the jury is largely composed of YOUNG people whose verdict will show the levels of tolerance of their generation.

This case is actually based upon FREE SPEECH and how it is used. And if you cannot yet comprehend that, perhaps you should tune into this trial because it's certain to be an element later on.
