O.K. So...say that I am "on-board with the COBRA venom
being in my city water since I believe (by logic only)
my city is a target. WHAT ABOUT MY COFFEE TODAY?
note:

...that means they are not "just testing"...they are
PUTTING THE VENOM IN THOSE CITY WATER SUPPLIES ON THEIR LIST
to monitor how many people are getting infected!)

So...when I get up tomorrow morning can I logically ASSUME
that since my COFFEE is brewed at high heat in my coffee-
maker, that the toxin (which may or MAY NOT) be in the
water is destroyed?



I did some searching and came up with the following
articles that look at the "heat level" of most commercial
coffee makers (I'm not talking about on-the-stove
coffee perks as they may run hotter.)

Regarding snake venoms, they tested 28 snake venoms at 100'C: 19/28 of the venoms
were still very dangerous after 5 minutes at 100'C. (100 CELCIUS IS AROUND 212 FAHRENHEIT)

"Heating all venoms led to the denaturation and loss of some proteins; however,
most of the venoms retained a significant number of proteins. Seventeen venoms
contained more than seven proteins after heating, whereas five venoms contained
only one to three proteins. All but nine of the heated venoms had substantial
hemorrhagic activity, and Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus venom had very
high activity, almost four times that of the second most hemorrhagic venom from
Crotalus viridis lutosus."

QUESTION:
How hot does my coffee maker get the water for my MORNING COFFEE? (Remember...if you have ever been a barrista
BOILING coffee is an absolute no-no!)

sO....Putting these two thoughts TOGETHER, you will read between the lines that since
your coffee maker only heats to about 205 F...that is NOT high enough to completely
destroy the SNAKE VENOM if it is present in that water.

My family buys water from a commercial water company
so I will assume (for now) that they process the water
and the snake venom would not be present. But NOT everyone
is thinking about their COFFEE!

ALSO REMEMBER...
Coffee shops (like Starbucks and your local mom & pop
coffee shop) WILL USE CITY WATER to brew your java. That
means you are going to have to change your habit of
getting coffee from this source if you want to be safe.

Strange times we live in!!
