How to Plant or Transplant Tomatoes or Peppers
Try it this way, and I promise you that you’ll be rewarded with faster growing and healthier plants:

When planting any type of tomato or pepper plant, pinch off all but the top leaves.

Dig a deep hole. Always add a cup of water to the prepared hole and then set the plant into the hole and put a tablespoon of powdered, unflavored gelatin in the hole as near to the roots of the plant as possible.
A teaspoon of cinnamon also goes in.
The gelatin will feed and encourage helpful bacteria, and the cinnamon will keep away fungus and cutworms.

For sweeter tomatoes, put two tablespoons of baking soda in the bottom of the hole. Cover the baking soda with an inch or two of dirt before you put the plant in the hole.

Carefully fill the hole with dirt and pack the dirt down tight.
Use tomato cages or wooden stakes and garden twine to tie your tomato plants up and give them support to keep them from getting blown over by the wind.

If they aren’t supported, they won’t produce nearly as much and may develop fungus diseases if the plant is laying over on the ground.
The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them.
They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care.
Either case is a failure of leadership.

I make my tomato cages out of concrete remesh.

It looks like a fence and comes in 50 foot rolls. I forget how long the individual pieces were but they make a cylinder about 2 feet in diameter. I cut the bottom wire off so I have a bunch of wires to stick in the ground to hold it upright. The one foot holes are plenty of space to grab a tomato.

I just transplanted my tomatoes into 4 packs yesterday.

save your egg shells all winter and till those in along with 1 cup of magnesium sulphate (epsom) for every 10x10 section and ash and charcoal from your fire pit....till this with a nice heap of fresh compost. I have a bumper crop since 2016 when I started this method. When you get great results, it's inspiring and keeps you really motivated out there so have some fun making nutritious FREE food!

supposedly the moon affects the water table below us, making the water rise or fall.

when it rises, the soil becomes softer, more pliable, easier to work with.
when it falls, the soil becomes harder, drier..

the moon phases tell you when its EASIEST to get things done.

100%...with the garden, I shoot for that but im my case, it's gonna grow mad anyways but with my smoke, I play the full moon game and there is something to be said about it when compared with sister plants planted 2 weeks before or after. You can actually see - at least in the veg state...the final product is more of less the same strength but the yeild is greater because over the course of its life, it's had 1 more full moon. its neat

Thank you!

Another tip for transplanting tomatoes: plant them at a 45 degree angle, covering the first leaf node. All of those fibers create root system. The plant will be healthier and sturdier.

I worked at a large nursery for a few years. The farmers taught me this, which was also the secret to getting tomatoes far later in the season, as they had a good root system for water uptake to combat the Arizona desert conditions.

I have used the moon cycle for years. It makes a huge difference.

It's hard to get workers certain days of the year in my town, as everyone plants the same two to three days.

Don't have time to read it yet, can anyone tell me if it contains CURES for powder mildew/mold that DOESNT change the plants in any way? That's the big one most people can't figure out. Many in Cali know the secrets n don't share.

Re: 101 Gardening tips the experts never tell you...very interesting stuff.
here is one of the best tips you will get..

make your own soil mix!!

especially for potted plants!

If you cant grow plants its one of two things...

either your soil mix isnt right

or

your plants arent getting enough sun

------

Ive been growing plants for 20+ years and once I figured out how to mix soil and realized that plants need a lot of light my growing completely changed.

Your soil mix should drain easily and dry out almost between waterings.

If youre just buying a bag 'potting soil' and throwing some seeds in it YOU WILL FAIL!!

Your mix should contain:
use these in differing concentrations with goal of getting a fast draining mix. Too much peat moss and your mix will get mucky and stay too wet.
Pine Fines
Peat Moss
Perlite

amendments:
greensand
azomite
bio char
humic acids
espoma fertilizer
