These companies started forcing people to tip before because tons of losers were "tip baiting", where they'd enter a large tip to get faster service and then cancel it after the order was delivered. So it's a no win situation for either side. |

Things will get interesting then. The delivery apps should change their policy so if the customer’s order didn’t get picked up they still get charged for it instead of refunded. If they want their food picked up they should tip pretty well, otherwise they just wasted their money and will also starve lol. I do the gig apps to earn a living. It isn’t weed or booze money. Customers that don’t drive seem to lack the comprehension skills to understand that gas at $4.25 a gallon is expensive, so is vehicle maintenance. The goal is to try to earn around $30 an hour at least to be profitable. It sounds great on paper but it doesn’t go far after gas costs eat up the profits. For me personally I put around $40 a day in gas. That’s half a tank a day. Driving 6 days a week is $240 a week in gas alone. Most days I’m lucky to make at least $100-120 a day. That’s before gas costs and maintenance. The biggest rush of the day is 5 pm til 10 pm. That’s 5 hours to work with. Keep in mind most restaurants are short staffed but customer demand stays the same. That means the driver has to sometimes wait up to 15-30 to even pick up the order. Then you have to zip through busy traffic in a reasonable time. If you can do 3 short $10 trips in an hour you hit your mark but you’d be extremely lucky to be in and out of most short staffed restaurants without waiting. If a customer decides to not tip, your company pay is around $2.25-$6. Even if you’re across the street it’s still not worth it if I have to wait up to 30 mins for your order. What person would want to earn $5 an hour taking 2 shit orders where the customer didn’t tip, especially when gas is $4.25 a gallon? Customers can blame the app all they want for not paying the drivers enough but that’s not gonna change. Getting food delivered is a service you’re paying for and driving isn’t cheap. If you can’t afford to tip at least $5-10 bucks then you should pick it up yourself. If you live on a dirt road you should tip at least $15-20 minimum. We can see where you live on the gps before even accepting your order. If it’s too much hassle then good luck getting your food delivered. By the time it gets tossed around and rejected by all the drivers in the area, your food will probably get cold. If your food arrives cold, just remember it’s because you’re either too cheap to tip or your economic beliefs about tipping just cost you a hot meal. Try tipping more next time. Also drivers can remember the names and addresses of good tippers and non tippers and will choose if your order is worth their time in the future accordingly. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82484402 Why is the customer expected to offset the difference in tips while the company is allowed to pay employees below the Federal minimum wage? Because the drivers are contractors for the company, not employees. Each driver according to the IRS technically is running their own business. They file a 1099 tax form during tax season. Taxes aren’t pulled out of their checks each week like an employee. |

The difference between a waiter/waitress and a driver is the server stands in a store all day and aren’t burning dollar bills all day long just to do their job. You have no problem with tipping someone who hands you your food. Really you should be tipping the chef instead. The waitress/waiter literally just walks your food from the cook to your table. Yet you find it odd that you should tip a driver for putting wear and tear on their vehicle and burning their own gas to trying to bring you your food in a timely matter and still as warm as they can keep it? Drivers risk their lives every day to bring your food to you but you’re ok with tipping someone who walked your food 50 feet to your table?? You lack basic logic and I’d bet you are either a woman or an entitled gen z. |

There's a Taxi app that has just been released here in Turkey not so long ago, and if the taxi cancels after he's accepted to pick you up, the company, named getir, fines the taxi driver (5 turkish lira, not much) Since i've started using the app, a lot less cancelations that's for sure, so it does work |
