Subject change from all this bs world issues….

Hello female overy born genders….(lol)

Yay to finally reaching my one year without my “friend”.
Nay to the night sweats that have been keeping me up all night.
Nay to the short term memory loss.
Nay to my recent through the roof high cholesterol.
Nay to the recent dark circles around my eyes.
Yay for not having any “dry” issues. Wink

The night sweats and not sleeping is killing me! I guess that’s where the “crankiness” comes in.

I would love to hear what everyone else is doing.. what is working, what doesn’t, and of course what natural remedies I can use in lieu of hormonal therapy.

What does my glp family have for me?

How’s that for a subject change? :)

This kind of discussion is not appropriate in a Public Forum. Try to think of others instead of your own emotional problems. Bragging about menopause is beneficial to no one. Upgrade your mentality with some character.

Thanks.

Bragging? I'd say she's reaching out for help. It's totally appropriate to post a thread like this on GLP. You must be new here.

Re: Fellow GLP women…..menopause - hormones discussion
Hang in there. It gets easier.

The sleep issues are the worst for me. Have you tried melatonin? The only thing that helps me is deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and meditation. Also those sleep noise machines, lavender incense or essential oil. Reiki may help. I’m a Usui master so do self attunements.

For the hot flashes, I used black cohosh because I didn’t want to take estrogen. Also wore layers and used fans, cool cloths. Also deep breathing.

The short term memory loss can be a bitch. I use lists, journals and notes for that. Also mindful journaling. I just finished a parapsychology class and learned to keep a journal to record what each of my senses…well sensed each day. Like pick one thing and describe every detail (like for taste, eat a piece of fruit and describe it at that moment). The purpose was to be mindful in that moment so you can train your brain to observe and remember. It does help.

As I said, though, it does get better. I went through premature menopause as most of the women in my family have. But the sleep issue is what really persists for me. You’ll get through it. hf

Actually I just rode it out. You become a crone and having fewer female hormones starts to balance you. I am much less of a maniac then I was.

It's a transition. It takes patience.
 Quoting: kat

Same here at 62.

SO glad it's all behind me, when I look back I can definitely see what all those crazy hormone shifts were doing to me.

Now, I'm on golden pond. serene and sweet, satisfied with my life and one of the best perks is buying pretty undergarments that never get bloody. My entire teen/young lady life ruined so many clothes.

Oh forgot to mention, my husband who had to live through the hell of my hormone issues with patience and grace loves me so much now.
I never go crazy as* bit*cH manic anymore.

The only downfall of growing old is still gravity and the old age things like arthritis bugging me.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76538212

Gravity sucks but clothes and exercises can help. But whatever. It happens. Alkalize to help arthritis. Try 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in warm water morning and evening.

Almonds will naturally raise your estrogen. I keep a box of chocolate covered almonds and I eat 8 a day.

I also use natural progesterone cream. I suffered till I added these 2 things. I tried black cohosh, soy isoflavons, and numerous vitamins.

The above 2 things when used correctly is all I needed.

I made it through without a single hot flash or night sweat. I take Curamed, a high quality turmeric pill and tart cherry pills every day. The amazing thing is, at nearly 60, my hair has very little gray in it. I also don’t need any painkillers and am virtually pain free.

They must be working because if I don’t take them for a day, I get really stiff and get my body will hurt.

The fun is just beginning. Whatever you do, do NOT have sex unprotected until at least the 5 year mark. It's still working, believe it or not. You still have a few eggs left.

Wait until the unmitigated rage sets in, that one is fun. Often happens going 80 on some rush hour freeway.

You will never sleep like you did at 20 again. Get used to it. No more 10 hour binges. You have to time it carefully and not eat before. What you can get is 4-5 really good hours of deep sleep. You have a lot more time and not as much to do with it. This is why you see seniors out walking at 4-6 am. You have to work out everyday to be able to sleep. No big chow downs either, they will keep you awake.

Man question here....so does menopause increase or decrease a womans sexual drive?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80335762

Women don't have a sex drive like men do.

Women are always capable of having sex, unlike men who have to become aroused.
 Quoting: Agent 99

Well women’s bodies have to get ready to have sex. So there has to be arousal. Some sex drive. Without that you have to use lube. Or it is no fun.

Btw . No sex drive AT ALL...I've not dated in years...in at peace and not lonely...live way out on 55 acres...surrounded by animals and nature . I've been alone 13 years, I can count on one hand how many times I've had sex during that time. Don't miss it. Nobody decent around redneckville to see anyway. Yes I'm attractive..young men still look at me when I go out in public and fix myself up a bit ( which is rare I leave ). Honestly. I'm super picky. Wasn't picky enough in my young years

I still wonder if my unicorn of 23 years dumped me off at the divorce court because she was too proud to have me see her go through menopause

She was so perfect

My friends say she divorced me because Im a jerk. My response is, I was always a jerk
Why wait till she is in her mid 40s??

Take estrace the rest of your life....avoid bone loss.. sweats and all that crap. I went thru a surgical menopause and horse estrogen was not good and I threw it away... and got a lot of osteoporosis. I was guided to estrace.. been on it a long long time and will take it until I am not here anymore.. I remineralzed my bones to that of a young woman on it and they are are strong.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80335762

I hadn’t had sex in years when I started getting the hot flashes. I was really hot for this guy but it didn’t last (he had a boyfriend, lol, I didn’t know, long sad story) and then when the menopause really kicked in it killed my desire completely

now I have a normal boyfriend, lol, and I have to use special creams just to make it tolerable because if I don’t it burns so bad it’s like his dick is just made of sandpaper, it will literally give me cramps and ruin my day if I don’t use my estrogen cream (to rebuild the lining because it thins out and gets dry) and some fancy lubes, it burns and stings so bad it’s not even remotely tolerable if I do nothing

the cream takes a couple of weeks or more of a high dose to get things ready and then it’s maintenance doses

it’s been an awful lot of trial and error on my part, just trying to make sex tolerable so I don’t have to deprive my boyfriend, lots of money on creams and lubes and supplements and a few yeast and UTIs thrown in for good measure while I adjusted to the creams, it really sucked bad for a few months, I finally have it under control

the estrogen cream, in small amounts, is not cancer causing like the hormone replacement therapy the doc will recommend
Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads.

Re: Fellow GLP women…..menopause - hormones discussion
I'm 50 and it's been about 8 months since my last cycle.

Had a baby at 44, started into perimenopause after I quit nursing. Now that was a rough ride! Talk about psycho woman, I would get rages out of nowhere, it was awful, like being possessed. That settled down and the crying jags started. Tried HRT but it screwed me up more, I quit after 8 weeks and figured it wasn't smart to mess with mother nature.

Went into hot flash territory, black kohosh did nothing for me but vitex chaste tree did, one at morning and one at night. Learned about that right here on GLP- thank you, whoever you are!

I don't really have trouble sleeping as yet, I have 2 kids in the house and a lot to keep me busy, so I'm pretty exhausted at night. But I've definitely noticed more fatigue, so I've had to increase my 2 morning cups of coffee to 2+ whatever additional is required.

The weight around the middle sucks. It also includes some nasty bloating. Doesn't matter what I eat, when the bloat comes it can be very uncomfortable. I hope that settles down soon, I know it's just stuff going on down there, readjusting.

I have found that I hate wearing anything tight around my middle, almost like when I was pregnant. I have been revamping my wardrobe for more comfort. Pull on stretch jeans... yes please! My new best friend!

Another new best friend is the BEST lube called Passion. Water based and not sticky! It's on Amazon... and did I mention it's NOT STICKY! Get some, you won't be sorry!

Chocolate and weed help a bunch too! Life's little pleasures to smooth out the rough spots.

Much love to my sisters, no matter what stage of life you're in
