what about things like always finding the food you get from the supermarket messed up. Like someone tampered with it. or production errors always. And nobody believes you ocos it only seems to target you.

Body dents, while they may compromise the seal and should be cause for rejection, aren’t usually as dangerous as dents on or near the seam on either end. These can easily lead to loss of seal and contamination of the contents.

A particularly treacherous problem is pinholes that can form in the can body if it has been stored in anything other than a bone-dry environment. A tiny, almost invisible spot of rust, given time and the right conditions, can eat through a can and compromise the seal in a relatively short time, even a matter of months. This is a reason that canned goods kept on ocean-going craft have their labels removed and are coated completely by dipping in wax, to prevent rapid corrosion from the salt air.

Also, there is a very thin rubber compound applied to the rim of the metal can lids as extra ‘“insurance”, in case the hermetic (metal-to-metal) seal between the lid and can body is imperfect due to manufacturing or can-sealing defects. In a perfectly sealed can it isn’t an issue, but if there is a gap the rubber seal is helping fill in, the air exposure can cause the rubber to deteriorate and the can will lose its seal.

Acidic foods can also eat through the plastic coating inside the can that separates the food from the metal of the can itself, eventually creating a pinhole from the inside out; for example, this is why canned tomato products are usually given a two-year maximum shelf life by their manufacturer.

I wish I knew what the actual endgame is. I usually think the way you do, but it feels different this time. It's hard to imagine things going completely off the rails because we are used to normality, for the most part.

Not this time though. The whole world feels heavier and darker. This time, it really could be a total collapse.
