Frozen wind turbines hamper Texas power output, state's electric grid operator says

Nearly half of Texas' installed wind power generation capacity has been offline because of frozen wind turbines in West Texas, according to Texas grid operators.

Wind farms across the state generate up to a combined 25,100 megawatts of energy. But unusually moist winter conditions in West Texas brought on by the weekend's freezing rain and historically low temperatures have iced many of those wind turbines to a halt.

When scatterbrain Joe thinks of windmills he pictures 4 slow rotating wooden blades on a stone tower with people in wooden clogs walking along a path besides a canal carrying buckets.

And thinks that will produce the additional 2-3 terawatts(trillion) needed to switch to all electric transportation.

Most windmill farms aren't built to manage and provide utility electric to "save the planet". They're built to run data farms. Computer servers.

Google, Facebook, Microsoft, NSA and Amazon all know this.

The US generating capacity is 1.2 terawatts(trillion).

A large power plant would be over 2 gigawatts(billion)

A medium size power plant would near 500 megawatts(million)

A small size power plant would be 50-100 megawatts

A windmill farm total averaged continuous output is under 10 megawatts.




In over a year's time in office, there is no serious effort of the Biden administration to produce anything close to making the green new deal a reality. Only token efforts.

All that has happened is to skyrocket the cost of oil/natural gas, the worst inflation in decades and increase US dependence on foreign imports.
