His father murdered his Mom in front of him then suicided. He was raised in a good foster home, but obviously had developmental and stability issues.

Only bad habit is puffs of cigars. He has mesothelioma from doing demo construction in his youth. He was told he should be ok and live at least another 20 years if he can stop the smoking. Other then that he's functional.

He's wandered place to place for 40 years. Lost all his teeth years ago.

Monday we will try to find out what we can do to get his Birth C and ID back so he can get on disability or SS. He's 62 and has nothing. He can and wants to work, but needs the ID. He may need to be on a med but he seems totally fine without anything.

Thank goodness it's summer so he can be outside. I'm going to see if I can find him a tent on Craigslist, the damm things are so expensive.

He needs to contact his step parents who are still alive and live in Co Springs. If they say he can come home for help to get the ID's , I may drive him there.

Fucking Greyhound wants 200 bucks to go from Nashville to Denver. Insanity.

I'm in no better shape then he is emotionally. Both of us fell through societies cracks. He actually has better resources than I do, money or not.

Good for you Feathery! I picked up a guy hitchhiking in the middle of nowhere 2 days before Christmas. It was almost zero degrees that day. We talked for 2 hours while driving and i couldn't imagine spending Christmas alone so he stayed with my family for a few days. I often wonder about people like him and hope it softened his heart to know total strangers care. He wasn't the only wanderer I brought home either. Sadly those I kept tabs on never ended up well. If society were simply full of people willing to help others life would be so much better for everyone. So much fear, anger and depression could be banished. this is why I think Jesus had it exactly right.

OP, I don't know what to say really. Wandering for 40 years, this guy is completely unstable!!! No one wonders for 40 years without being unstable.

Also, missing all teeth, MANY times that is a meth problem!!!

PS, drug addicts will NEVER tell you're they're doing. They will always tell you they QUIT or have never done the stuff before. Trust me, I know, unfortunately, had people close to me that were users, they were always "quitting".

You could have helped him WITHOUT bringing him to your home!!!!

Stay safe OP!!!!!

Agreed. Hobos aren’t always riding the rails. A “hobo” is different from a “bum” in that a hobo is traveling, looking to work.

I've never done that, but I used to do much (very much) for people and in an earlier day it worked out and I actually made people (sometimes even strangers) very appreciative by helping them, loaning money, giving money, doing odd jobs for them etc. etc.

However today is a very different world and as a result, and because I got screwed over too many times to count, I am (these days) finding that I live by one simple motto,...

I’ve helped many. I always helped others. I found once you help consistently the person in need expects it. Then when you no longer hand out, they hate you. Zero appreciation. Which would hurt my feelings. I gave when I wasn’t in the position to give, but I gave. I tried to direct them to preparing food, shopping for used clothing, job opportunities. I was experiencing the same thing but was surviving. My attitude was surviving, giving comfort to my family. I was the warrior.
I suggest you give this person bus fare and let him go to his adopted parents. If his parents say no, there are government giveaways so he can pull himself together. He is the only person on this earth that can help him. You can do so much. Don’t create hard feelings. Simply buy his ticket out.
