I picked up a Hobo on the Highway again; he's in my guestroom
Life is so fucking unfair and our society so sick.

He's drug and alcohol free, as in never drank or did drugs.

Never went to prison or even jail.

His father murdered his Mom in front of him then suicided. He was raised in a good foster home, but obviously had developmental and stability issues.

Only bad habit is puffs of cigars. He has mesothelioma from doing demo construction in his youth. He was told he should be ok and live at least another 20 years if he can stop the smoking. Other then that he's functional.

He's wandered place to place for 40 years. Lost all his teeth years ago.

Monday we will try to find out what we can do to get his Birth C and ID back so he can get on disability or SS. He's 62 and has nothing. He can and wants to work, but needs the ID. He may need to be on a med but he seems totally fine without anything.

Thank goodness it's summer so he can be outside. I'm going to see if I can find him a tent on Craigslist, the damm things are so expensive.

He needs to contact his step parents who are still alive and live in Co Springs. If they say he can come home for help to get the ID's , I may drive him there.

Fucking Greyhound wants 200 bucks to go from Nashville to Denver. Insanity.

I'm in no better shape then he is emotionally. Both of us fell through societies cracks. He actually has better resources than I do, money or not.

if OP is a woman then yes that is dumb as fuck, honestly homeless people who dont drink or smoke are also very very very scetch. I was homeless for 2 years when I was a teen, the only homes who steal or fuck uo other peoples shit are the "sober" ones because they always have pycho issues or super multiple personality.

if you are homeless and sober you must have some insane mental problems. There are 100s if not 1000s of programs for free money and food but alot of them require drug testing

Re: I picked up a Hobo on the Highway again; he's in my guestroom
A few years ago, I was on my way to the supermarket. It was late, dark, I was on my bicycle. I saw a guy with a backpack walking on the sidewalk.

I passed him by..., and then went back.
"What's your story?", I asked.

(Maybe my just asking him made his day?)

"Are you hungry?" "Come to Publix with me."

And we bought food.

We walked the few blocks back to my house, we shared a meal. He washed his clothes. He used my computer and my phone. He spent the night.

In the morning I saw that he had, in fact, managed to locate a long-lost friend of his. Because her car was in my driveway, and she was in the spare bedroom with him.

"Good Morning!"

We shared another meal.
And then they left.

She called me 8 months later, on Valentine's Day, to thank me.

Not a good idea bringing strangers around letting them know where you sleep. Should have set him up in some motel with $50 bucks for something to eat. boring Better sleep with one eye open.

I could have banned ACs from this thread, but I didn't.

I didn't do it for "brownie points. I did it because. No real reason.

He said almost nobody helps anymore or picks up hitchhikers. He said he had slept on the side of the road for three days hoping for a ride. He had no food no water and almost no money. He has two pair of crap jeans, two Tshirts and a sleeping bag in a knapsack, that's it.

He had an episode and ditched his old phone. Monday we'll straiten out as much as we can.

if his dad killed his mom and then himself how does he have step parents? if you meant foster parents, they'd have to be in their 80's 90's or even older....

OP, I don't know what to say really. Wandering for 40 years, this guy is completely unstable!!! No one wonders for 40 years without being unstable.

Also, missing all teeth, MANY times that is a meth problem!!!

PS, drug addicts will NEVER tell you're they're doing. They will always tell you they QUIT or have never done the stuff before. Trust me, I know, unfortunately, had people close to me that were users, they were always "quitting".

You could have helped him WITHOUT bringing him to your home!!!!
