REYNOSA, TAMPS.- After spending up to 13 months stranded in Plaza La República, hundreds of Central American and Haitian migrants began to cross into the United States to receive humanitarian asylum.

Although the reactivation of crossings for humanitarian asylum purposes for foreigners has been waiting for a long time in Reynosa, authorities fear that the measure will prompt the arrival of a new wave of migrants, like the one that Nuevo Laredo has just experienced with the arrival of 529 Haitians last Saturday.

Undocumented immigrants are also expected to arrive after the end of the Title 42 policy, dated for May 23 and which would end the summary deportations that were initiated by former President Donald Trump under the pretext of the Covid-19 pandemic.


The crossing of hundreds of migrants to Texas began to be reflected from Sunday in Plaza La República, where foreigners began to dismantle the improvised tents they set up to live.

Located in front of the Reynosa-Hidalgo international bridge, this plaza was taken over 13 months ago by asylum seekers and came to house up to 3,000 people.
