What a bunch of SUCKERS  That makes ZERO sense. If you short something, that means you're hoping it goes down in value. You get the money up front (in this case $46,000 per coin), and agree to repay the # of bitcoins at a later date. You want the price to go down so that you can buy X bitcoins at a lower price to fulfill the short contract.
