[link to arstechnica.com (secure)] This could have been significantly worse. Travel to China has been signficantly reduced. From 2021 - "China has all but shut its borders to travellers, cutting total international flights to just 200 a week, or 2% of pre-pandemic levels, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said in September." This is relevant because people traveling to China very frequently were bringing baby formula back, which would have increased the demand if China didn't have mostly closed borders. If it's still closed, it's because they still haven't figured out how the bacteria ended up in the formula. Additionally - Commercial baby food is a relatively recent thing. It's odd to think that we have people believing that babies will starve to death without this commercial product. The process of evaporating water out of milk and sterilizing it left a product that resulted in good growth when fed to infants instead of breast milk. The evaporated milk was usually mixed with sugar or corn syrup before being given, and babies were typically also given vitamin supplements. And even pump milk for any women they know who needs it. It’s a full time job. So many have planned their lives around formula and getting back to work ASAP. If there is a reason a woman can’t quit work if she has a child she may need to rethink having one. She could easily have a sick baby who needs full time care. Motherhood isn’t for everyone. Adopting an older child may be the answer for some. My friend and her husband fostered a toddler and ended up adopting her. |

Earlier this year, the affordable / grocery store-sold types of canned cat food were out of stock everywhere, including Amazon.
