Did you know the United States no longer stockpiles grain for it's own people? It's true. Look it up. Any stockiles are held in the hands of private farmers & corporations.

It's actually strategically safer for farmers to store grain than the government. Decentralized is harder for an enemy to hit. Downside the government can take control of a farmers grain if an emergency is declared.

That probably happened because the silo was emptied too quickly. Lots of hungry ones out there..

I read somewhere there were like 36,000 food processing plants in the USA. Not sure if that's true, but I'm sure many of them just combine food components (cake factory mixes raw ingredients and puts them into boxes).

This is a literal food processing plant. They turn corn into corn syrup and other products. It would be considered a major, indispensable hub of food chain distribution.

EDIT: Or at least I know ADM in Decatur did that with corn (my close friend worked in their HVAC department).

grain dust is very dangerous
