Is pain a catalyst or inhibitor of growth?
If pain is an evolutionary catalyst for the progression of the human species…. How could that “factor” of pain (how do you define pain?) …be input into a “learning” machine in order to enable the forward progression of “machine learning” thus “evolving” an AI? How would the trajectory of an AI that has factored pain into its algorithm compare to a human that has experienced the same pain as the AI? What does that trajectory look like if pain is not factored in? Is pain necessary for evolution?

Re: Is pain a catalyst or inhibitor of growth?
One needs to be uncomfortable to grow and evolve. Many inventors didn't feel at home and created. White people created tech cause of winter, tropical folks had no need. Ancient tribes in Amazon no "real" need to change.

People sometimes have to hit rock bottom to find the energy to change, sure they know they have to when chronic but when acute, well that can cause liftoff.

Look at all the ingenious ways to split firewood.

Overwhelming pain is certainly an inhibitor. A woman in screaming in childbirth isn't going to invent anything, though motivation after.

PTSD and learned helplessness when pain is either too much or the feeling of powerlessness to effect change.

I think pain is the catalyst. Fear is the inhibitor.

For me at least.

Souls require the presence of pain to come and go. Child birth, passion of the Christ.
