Quoting: Gray Man ERCOT said six power plants went offline on Friday afternoon and resulted in the loss of about 2,900 megawatts of electricity. Anonymous Coward User ID: 83130355 05/14/2022 10:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Texas grid is tiny compared to the Eastern and Western Grids. It has to be separated because of the salt under Texas. When a grid is tiny it is more susceptible to cascading from unmatched input and output. All grids are a constant balancing act. Any big power plant dropping offline suddenly can pose a problem in Texas. Any big event knocking out a bunch of circuits at roughly the same time will also threaten this grid. The gird actually worked very well there until the renewables became a larger share of input. They used to have more big consistent power plants going than they do now. It takes a long time to get a big power plant up and running. The ones they use to quickly adapt with are gas peaker plants for the most part. Texas will continue to have more and more problems with their grid as more renewable energy comes online and less consistent big power plants are running. They do not like to tell people the truth that renewable energy actually very much decreases the reliability of the grids. Even our bigger grids will become vulnerable when they get packed with a ton of renewables replacing their big plant inputs. Reality is that you could never power any of this grids with renewables only. Renewables are only a partial answer to things and cause extreme danger when too many of them are introduced. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71406107 am i missing something here? What you are missing is who controls ERCOT. I guess you are also missing what happened with Texas power grid last winter where it was taken out by the same actors for days and days. I will celebrate when people are actually able to rub some brain cells together and see the sham playing out in front of them. |
