It's 2022 and everybody has Internet; Why don't we have a Direct Democracy and get rid of Senators and Representatives? How do we switch?

Why do we put up with traitorous politicians that say one thing and do another? It is absolutely possible for every citizen to vote for every Bill if we wanted to do that.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

Because a true democracy sucks butt, as the general population is insane.

We have state reps so our entire country doesn't look like Los Angeles.

We could put people like Joe Bribe me now Biden out of business. We could immediately get rid of all the career politicians that hang on for 40 years.

Um. Because we are a Republic not a democracy. 51% "majority" is fucking bullshit and doesn't work.

51% of the people you meet say it's good to off you. 49% disagree. That's it, it's been decided.

There's your direct democracy.

Because direct democracies become mobs.
You need someone high class overseeng it all.

That's true.

Also you need a geographical balance.
Tons of people jammed into cities with city ways of thinking and city skills.

Rural states are the backbone of the country -- farming, mining. Fewer of them but a huge impact on the economy. Electoral college gives them a say which they wouldn't have with a straight democracy.

"The Founders" were pretty f'ing smart.

The only thing they failed to foresee is the dominance of mass media which now basically run the country without having been elected at all.

It shouldn't be too hard to switch. None of the present regime gives a flying damn about the constitution anyway so what is there to stop any major changes?

Do you need to be reminded of the phrase "No taxation without representation"?

Representation is key. People who feel that their interests are not having representation in government are not going to be very willing to obey the standards of that government.

Direct democracy would be a disaster: massive quantities of people would end up having absolutely 0 representation. They'd quickly realize that they're slaves to the absolute tyranny of the 51%. There would be no subtlety about it either. While plenty of people today feel they have no representation in government, there is at least an illusion of representation in the form of all those legislators of which a few claim to represent your region and probably a few that somewhat kinda represent adjacent views.

In a direct democracy that would be all gone. It would be a certainty to people that the government is nothing but an enemy, completely uncapable of being reasoned or negotiated with. Rampant terrorism and worse would be an inevitable result.

Yes the founders were really smart, but some really smart people have hacked the system and have taken control of the country. This country is totally out of reasonable control. We've been forced into massive Inflation, crazy social decisions and we are staring WWIII right in the eyes. It's hard to imagine that a Direct Democracy could be worse than what is going on right now. It's plain as day that our voting system has been corrupted and neither party is willing to do anything about it.

Democracy = five wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.

What we need is a convention of states. Get rid of 60% of the government we have now and get control back to the way it’s supposed to be.

That will be the legit final nail in the coffin of America when that happens. Sadly, it will probably happen sooner rather then later.
