A LOT of investment capital moved from conventional hydrocarbon energy (that runs 1st world civilization) to "go electric America" windmills and solar panels. It's a folly, and the investment bankers know it, but they can eek some taxes and contractor revenue out of it. It's business, and any time money changes hands it's good for a monetary based system of governance. The problem is, now we've wasted all that capital chasing unicorn farts (I don't mean to discourage research, we need all the help we can get) and the bill has come due for that "future production" we haven't invested in. Oops. Bad call.
