Secondary, or human-to-human, transmission is relatively limited. Infection can result from close contact with respiratory secretions, skin lesions of an infected person or recently contaminated objects. Transmission via droplet respiratory particles usually requires prolonged face-to-face contact, which puts health workers and household members of active cases at greater risk. The longest documented chain of transmission in a community was six successive person-to-person infections. Transmission can also occur via the placenta from mother to fetus (congenital monkeypox).

How come there is no updates on any of the victims?... Like shouldn't they be telling us what they are seeing symptom wise and how many need hospital treatment, how many are having severe effects, are most at home or in isolation units..it's all very sus at the moment..what is REALLY happening is the question..

Back in late 2001, when concerns of terrorism were at a fever pitch after 9/11 and the possibility of a bioweapon attack involving smallpox was being bruited about, a representative from a research group I was involved with at the time contacted the Jenner Institute in London (at that time it was known as the Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Research) regarding the long-term efficacy of the smallpox vaccine. The length reply that was forthcoming, from no less a personage than the director of the institute at that time, was quite reassuring.

Apparently this matter has been the subject of no little study over the years, and the condensed takeaway from those studies was that, although the efficacy of the vaccine did indeed wane over time, in the majority of cases enough immunity remained after as much as sixty years to prevent serious illness upon infection. The opinion of the Institute at that time was that, for all intents and purposes, resistance to smallpox derived from the vaccine’s effect on the immune system was lifelong, and to the same degree as experienced by those unfortunate enough to have contracted the disease, sans vaccine, and survived. One could still, if one’s immune system was laggard, experience some symptoms if infected, but the infection would resemble the variola minor strain of smallpox as opposed to variola major, the far more deadlier and dreaded strain.

Take from that what you will. At the time, monkeypox wasn’t a blip on the radar, so no inquiry regarding the vaccine’s effect on that virus was queried. That said, everything I’ve learned about monkeypox over the years - as well as more recently, since the current outbreak began - would seem to indicate that, due to the extreme similarities between these virii, those the majority of those who have received a smallpox vaccine, at any time in their lives, will at most likely experience relatively minor (though certainly unpleasant) symptoms, but little more than that.

That opinion is, of course, predicated on the belief that the current monkeypox strain is from nature, and has not been tampered with in a laboratory. If the latter, then all bets are off...

You are most likely right. So far only one person that's had the smallpox vaccine has contracted this strain of Mpox. Mid 50s male in Berlin, I'll keep an eye on that case in particular.

Here's something else I just thought about, most of deaths from Covid were people over 55, they also had the smallpox vaccine as children.

Maybe Im just over thinking it.
