My older sister worked in a mental institution in the early 60s, Homosexuals were institutionalized back then, and given shock treatments and even frontal lobotomies.

That all ended in 1967 when President Reagan signed the Lanterman - Petris Act , that ended institutionalizing patients against their will.

If we see ~1,600 new cases a day by end of August, it won’t matter that the current monkeypox outbreak started in the gay community, every community will be at risk.

My chief concern is increasing anecdotal reports of some catching it from people before they developed pustules. Because it’s entering community spread phase, we can’t be sure who anyone is catching it from, or how it’s being transmitted. Contact with fomites? Skin-to-skin contact? Airborne?

Press downplaying the risk, saying this isn’t a repeat of early missteps w/covid, makes me think this is exactly like the beginning of covid.

Correct most of us dont engage in this hypersexualized lifestyle... unfortunately there is a subset that cant control themselves and its bizarre; but because of the way its set up the sex partner this subset is having sex with is wiling and able as well so theres no stopping it. one would think the monkeypox warnings that were out there in early june late may would have made them think twice.
