The whole situation is more of a stalemate than anything else. It depends on if Russia wants to turn every city into ash like Mariupol or not. If they aren't willing to do that, they're not going to be making any additional gains in any of the cities that truly matter - Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Lviv, etc. |

They're about to be split in Donbass. Likewise, they have no one to bring up. Russia lost February 24th. Fact is, they can't take Kyiv and Kharkiv. They utterly failed at that. Looks like there's a good chance Izyum is going to be recaptured by the Ukrainians here too. And we know the Ukrainians can blow any Russian ship out of the water Black Sea with their Neptunes... Do the Russians know the meaning of the term "heavily-backed Western insurgency?" Because keep Mariupol over time isn't going to be such an easy task regardless... |

The Russian had no intention of taking Kiev. He just forced the Ukrainians to deploy forces where they would not be needed. Brilliant strategy that went over your head. Don't feel bad. There's fighting in the streets of St Petersburg as the Ukrainian horde presses their attack. It's only days before Moscow falls. Zelensky is just too much of a tactical genius for Putin to handle. |

Great Victory ! A pathetic search for any success Even labeling it as a Russian success, which it is not, this episode will be in history books together with the Thermopiles and Alamo. Catch what I mean? We Americans are kind of educated to feel ashamed about razing entire cities to the ground - for example, Dresden, Germany in WWII. The Russians just did the same to Mariupol. Similar to Kyiv and Kharkiv and Kherson, they're unable to fight and win a conventional war, so they did the next best thing: firebombed it into oblivion. If the Russians want to celebrate that, I suppose they can... but war crimes are war crimes. They destroyed an entire civilian population of 400,000, many of whom were sympathetic to Russian causes, at least prior to the war. They obviously were not restricting their artillery to military targets. Pretty fucked up. But I suspect the Ukrainians are going to be retaking significant parts of the Donbass here shortly. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79238296 United States 05/17/2022 09:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Russia is winning this by every metric. Sanctions are a joke and have done nothing but make Russia stronger while kicking the US in the nuts. European countries are starting to open the required Ruble accounts to purchase oil and gas products from Russia, essentially giving the middle finger to Biden et al. Leaders in those countries know that their citizens will actually riot and bring 'regime change', far more than the docile sheep in the US. Now if Rand Paul can hold up this $40 billion payoff to Ukraine a little while longer while negotiations take place, we might be able to save the taxpayer some money. |
