The answer is this.

Most Christians will die during the tribulation through martyrdom. The antichrist will seek to destroy the human race with conquest and war. Very few humans will be left and only a few people will have the faith and be saved at the time of Jesus Christ return.

The only way I could see Christians having to die from martyrdom would be if the Islamic countries or China conquered the christian countries and forced the people to convert to Islam or in case of China, forced everyone to stop practicing a religion.

Revelations 13:5-8

5 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7 It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. This is the endtimes which is soon. The antichrist or beast will have 3 and half years of rule and a world dictatorship.
He will force his religion on everyone and most people will receive his mark. The mark will change the human dna and there will be no freedom. All who do business and buy food will be required to have this mark.

This new religion will also require all to worship and the beast will proclaim to be God in the flesh. Politicians will give him authority because of war and fear. My guess it will encompass some aspect of islam. Many people will be beheaded by the sword.

Matthew 7:21

Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.
