Is this the answer to the world's energy crisis
It would certainly free up a lot of coal and Nat Gas for heating homes, producing fertilizer, and be cleaner and safer than Nuclear, while being more efficient than wind and solar.

Good video.

I saw similar tech at Sandia National Labs in 1984. They were using an array of lasers to hit the pellet and cause an implosion.

I realized that the pellet fusion principle could even be scaled up to get the pressure/temp necessary to fuse Deuterium-Helium 3. That produces energy with NO neutrons emitted.

Deuterium-He3 has the potential for very high efficiency. In a mirror fusion reactor using magnetic "mirrors", the product is protons and electrons which can become electricity directly rather than using heat to run turbines.

When I was an aerospace engineer, I often attended AIAA's Joint Propulsion Conference where some extremely advanced concepts were discussed.

I sincerely hope the new company is successful. Fusion would help our civ advance to the next level.

BTW, the video talks about how 20% of the world's people consume 50% of the energy. That is because that 20% is highly productive.

For example, farmers in advanced countries use a LOT of energy, i.e., diesel, to produce huge amounts of food. It is misleading to compare that to a Third World farmer using oxen and producing far less.

never in the energy debates

does anyone mention nuclear

or its wastes

using new thorium reactors

we can reuse spent nuclear wastes

using a fraction of the fuel

Thanks for the link.

I am a fan of LFTRs.

My experience in materials science tells me the real challenge there is the liner for the LFTR.

Hot fluorides will eat stainless, glass, and most other metals.

IIRC, Tantalum is the ticket for fluorides.

I didn't get much interest earlier, I looked up the company and stated doing some research on investment opportunities, the company has just been acquired last November and is listed on the nyse, shares are only $10 right now.

Thinking of buying a piece of this now, it would be like buying Apple at $2 a share???

Yes, but you still need a liner that can handle the hot fluorides. Tantalum is expensive, but I know a machine shop that specializes in fabricating it. It is used in hydrofluoric acid plants and plastics plants here.

That's good to know, My experience is in working nuclear outages all over the US for 13 years, I mainly just did rigging of heavy loads, it's nice to learn a little science.

Try pumping liquid flouride salts around and see what happens, they are impractical beacuse of flouride is highly corrosive you would need very exotic materials to contain it.

If they really build a 150 megawatt plant, that is monumental. It will be the 1st fusion plant in history.

But I fear they will be under attack from the fossil fuel industry.

If they can survive, that would be an excellent investment.

Global warming is a myth.

Global warming is to control you and your business.

Plants and algae LOVE to eat CO2.

all the smoke billowing coal and oil industry and armies of WW1 and WW2 didn't do squat to fuck the earth.

Jerusalem, my happy home,
When shall I come to thee?
When shall my sorrows have an end?
Thy joys when shall I see?

O Christ, do Thou my soul prepare
For that bright home of love
That I may see Thee and adore
With all Thy saints above.

IMHO, a step in the wrong direction. I want a unit, small enough to fit in a cupboard and run a house. A one off payment for the unit, no future bills, only maintenance costs for the unit. Bigger units for industrial use. Water hammers, back in the day, produce steam. Steam is all you need to make that generator go round. Tidal flow and magnet energy, all work. But the elites can't control us, if we don't pay them. That's why they encourage debt. Debt slaves are easily controlled.

I think individual homes should be built with solar power...With a grid-tie system, there's no maintenance...With the right batteries, there's very little maintenance and at least half of your power needs met, if not closer to 90%...

Hydrogen is dangerous, as it is already "mixed" and ready to ignite...Natural gas is abundant, but needs oxygen to burn making is a safer fuel...
