Jesus showed me something today about "stripes".
A common misunderstanding and saying is that we are healed by Jesus' stripes AS IF we are healed because he was flogged. Fellow believers say that By his stripes we are healed, implying that we are healed because he was afflicted for our transgressions. But when you look at verses that contain the word "stripe(s)" you get a different understanding:

Psalms 89:32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

Proverbs 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

St. Luke 12:47-48
And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10
But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

1 Peter 2:24-25
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For (because) ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Stripes by Jesus means literally that he chastises you unto perfection.

Hebrews 12:5-13
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye Fatherless, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Oh I live how you study OP!

I have a verse that goes along with this:

Luke 12:48 "48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever* much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."

Yes, we all bear punishment for our sins. The death and resurrection of Jesus is for our salvation. Not for our punishment.

You christians have this weird fascination with needing to be “punished for your sins”, as well as “begging for forgiveness” and being absolved.

Just go pay a Dominatrix and live out your fantasies already.

What you state is true, OP, but the stripes laid on His back also serve for physical healing. He took not only our sins, but our infirmities upon Himself, and as the Great Physician can cure us. There is, of course,MSU knee unto death that God uses to end our lives, but all sickness leading up to that final one are curable, if we but ask in faith and God acquiesces.

I recommend an older book, entitled Christ the Healer, by Bosworth, if you or anyone else is interested. Christ said that he came so that we might have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10), and as disease is antithetical to an abundant life, one may claim that healing. As James 4:2 states, “...you have not because you ask not”. As it is the stated will of God that the Christian should have an abundant life, one should not hesitate to ask for healing by the stripes laid on the back of His Son. He will answer as He always prayer; either “Yes”, or “I have something even better for you”.

Let's be really honest Zovalex - you hate God. I spent 40 years as an atheist, I never once felt the need to belittle a Christian for their faith. It was simply different than what I believed. You, on the other hand, search them out so you can harass them at every opportunity.

That's not a difference in opinion, that's revenge. Since you are so much further above everyone else spiritually, I'd think you'd have the self-awareness to grasp that. What is it about Christianity that threatens you SO MUCH that you have to do everything in your power to make sure your opinion is heard, over and over? This is not the behavior of a well-balanced and spiritually advanced human, this is the behavior of a petulant child who is upset his toy has been taken away.

You are taking the concept out of its context. Physical healing is a gift from God (along with salvation), because disease is often caused by sin.
The Hebrews believed that sin caused all suffering and disease.( see John 9:2)
Although not all disease is related to sin, most of it is. Which is why we are to pray for the sick.
"And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." ( James 5:15).
Jesus payment for sin( crucifixion and stripes) also caused a way to be free from disease (which was caused by sinning).
So indeed by his stripes, we are healed.

To be clear, I'm not saying that he doesn't heal us! I prayed for 3 people for specific healing since Sunday and they each got it; full body healing, deliverance of demons causing extreme agitation of the legs, and foot and ankle.

The stripes Jesus received doesn't have to do with the context of the verses of our own healing, that's all I'm saying. The context is Jesus stripes us u to obedience and perfection, it's discipline from a loving Father and it's great!
