A 2 brigade division with not even a little light armor.

Hold up, the 101st isn't airborne any more? When did that happen?

Yes, I get it's possibly an out moded form of warfare, but that doesn't usually stop the army from training people to do it. You know, just in case. Because they're there to get trained anyway.

Airborne isn't outmoded. It's just a capability that is rarely called for. A really stupid thing would be to parachute airborne in just because you got em. It's risky

Most of the time the 82nd is just used as a top of the line light infantry division. And because it's light infantry it's relatively fast to deploy.

I guess they don't use it much if they stopped training them to do it in the 80s... How many guys who learned to do this in the 80s are still even in the Army?

But, i get, they're doing other things. I was just surprised the 101st wasn't even training airborne according to this thread.

I don't think anyone should do anything just because they can. But, I have heard they have not used combat jumps in years. This could be wrong though.

I did all those schools in 83.. They are literally (I will pass this and not go home a failure embarrassment) Schools.. Though mine was for Marine force recon.. We did all the US Army and amphib recon Ft story Virginia schools.. Like Martin Sheen said as Capt Willard.. "I did it when I was 19 and it damn near wasted me" God bless our spec op volunteers

Cool. Sounds like a new special forces division.

They will be bad ass once they learn their pronouns and how to fight urban warfare in high heels.

Rangers basically do this now. 82nd and 101st used to both be airborne. 101 went Air Assault. I been through all three schools, plus a few, Air Assault was no joke.

Great, just what we need.

all while the southern border is WIDE OPEN and we are invaded by millions of third worlders

yeah, just what we need, another airborne division in Alaska

Airborne units haven't even been used on a large scale since WW2 ... might as well bring back the horse cavalry while we are at it

mid to late 80s.

the One Oh Worst ceased being Airborne in 1972

they retain the "Airborne" above the puking buzzard as a historical lineage thing -- much to the butthurt of some

just like the 10th Mountain Division isn't truly a "mountain" division anymore, the 101st hasn't been "Airborne" for a long while

My oath is to the constitution. Against all enemies, foreign....and domestic up to and including my government. Must suck to live a life with no honor that you have to throw that weak bullshit out there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67904014

Well, if you believe even 5% of what you see on GLP, its pretty obvious the constitution is currently under attack by enemies both foreign and domestic, including the government.

Fascinating, based out of Alaska this new division will lead airborne assault in arctic regions. Gonna say this is a coincidence that the division will only be 200 miles from Russia

The 82nd and 101st are now joined by the 11th
